Does anyone have a copy of the Bracknell festival programme for 1980 or 1981. I am trying to find the names of a Female Candadian duet who played the festival in one of those years. A song they sang has been bugging me for nearly 25 years, I've tried posting the lyric's I know without success, so I'll try a different tack.

Cheers

Raggy

I suppose Kate & Anna McGarrigle would be too obvious.

You're welcome. I was probably there, but I'm buggered if I can think who it might have been.

Try pm ing Roger the skiffler. He lives in that area and may well be able to sort something out for you.

I used to live in bracknell and indeed was a steward but that was mid nineties, when it has changed to a amusic festival.

There were two unaccompanied singers who sang at Towersey around that time. One of the singers was a Brit who had emigrated to Vancouver but had sung in some biggish unaccompanied group in the 70' (not the Young Tradition) but I'm buggered if I can remember the name.

Have you tried Folk Roots? They have magazines going back to the 70's
It used to be called Southern Rag.

I could have helped you. But, only recently I dumped all my back copies.

The only other female canadian duo I can think of is Anita Best and Pamela Morgan, but I think they performed together a little later than the date mentioned.

Come to think of it they were/are IIRC East rather than West coast canada.

My first reaction was fRoots - as it has been called for the past 6 years or so - though as Skipper Jack says, it was Southern Rag at the time. I also think that 1980 was before Ian Anderson was involved in the organisation of Bracknell. But you could ask.

SJ: where did you dump your back copies? I want them!

Excuse ignorance, what is IIRC as opposed to West Coast Canada, I didn't specify a region, did I?

No you didn't, but MC Fat suggested there was a singer from Vancouver around the UK at that time so I was just adding that my possibility didn't fit in with his suggestion.

Sorry for trying to be helpful ;-)

Kevin,
The reference from Jim and your contribution didn't make any sense to me as I don't know what the IIRC is, and still don't, didn't mean to upset anyone :-(

Never upset, just sometimes "grumpy"!

IIRC If I Remember Correctly.

You could try ringing South Hill Park where the event was held in Bracknell, talk to a person called William Trev??????? or Ron McCallister

They may well be able to go back through their records.

Simon Chatterton at south hill park reckons it was before Ian Anderson.

IIRC Don died a few years ago (long separated from Sarah). But Sarah should be a good bet for this.

MCP/Mick

A few years? Don turned up at the last booking you and did in Seaford, and sang with his current partner Di.

Sarah is now married to Steve Jordan, and both perform at Whitby Folk Week, even though they live in Hampshire.

HK - I remember when I last saw him, but I thought I'd been told a few years later that he'd died. (I apologise for the exaggeration if that isn't so).

Think they might have been the Macgoragoles - or something along those lines. Stunning singers.

Kate & Anna McGarrigle has already been suggested but it doesn't seem to be the answer.
