Subject: No thread for John (Jonah.) Jones.?
From: scouse

It Amazes me that no-one has thought to begin a thread for and about Jonah. Are we to forget him......Those who met him are never likely to ever be the same again. I don't know if his book will ever come out, his triple Boxed Cd (A fistful of Festivals.)is well worth a listen to. Stories abounded in his mind about forty odd years on the road with different groups. Lets begin a thread!! as aye, scouse.

A performer mostly limited to playing in Wales I suspect. [runs away...]

Scouse: Whoever Jonah is, you should have titled this thread "A Thread for Jonah," since now you've started one.

It amazes ME that anyone would start such a thread with such a negative idea.

It makes us all feel like we're in the position of the son whose mother bought him two shirts for his birthday. He immediately tried one on, and she said, "What's the matter? Didn't you like the other one?"

seems to a regular rash of threads with vague, obscure references lately.

WHY can't the title and topic be made un-ambiguous? People from all over the world, with many different backgrounds read this. Be reasonable.

Usually, I try to retitle threads when the title is vague, but I'm afraid this one is a lost cause. Scouse, why don't you start a thread about Jonah and tell us what you know about him and what you want to know.

I think what scouse is trying to tell us is that he is disappointed that Johnny "Jonah" Jones who used to stage manage the Cropredy Festivals for Fairport Convention, died last December without receiving tribute here on the Mudcat.

I hope that scouse will tell us a bit more about the life and times of Jonah, but in the meantime this is all I can find through Google - and the first one is in Danish.

Sad to hear that Jonah died. I met him several times about 18 to 16 years ago when I was starting in the music buisiness. He was promoting Flaco Jimenez and Pyewacket at that time, for who I worked in Germany. What Ralph McTell wrote, is exactly what I felt about him. Several years later I surprisingly had him on the phone, when he worked for a travel agency. There are many stories I heard about him a long time ago, but these should be told by people who knew him closer.
He really was a remarkable character.

I never met the guy but Ralph's comments about him on his website lead me to believe he was an okay guy. I would recommend Ralph's site to anybody, cos of its general thoughtfulness, and the essays about Jonah and other people on the folkscene are very interesting
