Paul, as a relative newcomer to Klezmer I'm interested in who can turn up to play. I know I couldnt launch into klezmer tunes without knowing them well. What's your basic repertoir? I wish it was nearer.
I do the best I can in notating some music from my CDs but they're a whole new ball-game arent they!

Manchester Klezmer Has most if not all of the tunes that get played at this session and the atmosphere is friendly and welcoming. If you Email Steve Landin the guy that maintains the site, I'm shore he'll tell you whats hot and whats not.

Thanks for the link to that Manchester Klezmer site, Pied Piper: it's absolutely excellent. (Midis, sheet music to print off - will keep me very busy for a long time)

Have fun, all of you !

- jeanie (far too far from Stockport, sadly)

I can vouch for the fact that this is a great session run by friendly people. Welcomes all standards - even my very rusty Klezmer skills.

Cheers
Sarah

I've never managed to get the blue clicky thing to work, it goes as far as saying it's done it then dumps me in the middle of nowhere.

Thanks Pied Piper for pointing the rest in the right direction. Yes, beginners can and do join in, it helps if you read music, but just sit back and soak it in for a while, you'll be surprised how the idioms start to pop up naturally soon enough... it's all about learning the dialect really.

Porkstein said, rather gratuitously,
"Sponsored by Pork Farms Pork Pies amd Mr Porky Pork Scratchings"

Well, although some of my best friends are non- racist, you don't actually HAVE to be Jewish to come to the session, no one checks. Ham sandwiches available at the bar (mitzvah?) (along with cheese etc.) and a good pint of Robinson's for the thirsty.

I plan to do a bit of Busking in Manchester tommorow, but I think I'll pop down after and do a bit of quiet in-the-corner-noodling.
