We have a dear friend who's just moved to Hull. She sings and plays guitar sensitively. She has a 3-year old boy.

The question: What folk clubs/events/organisations are there in Hull (preferably child friendly)- she is limited in transport to a bike or a bus.

Hope some friends in Hull have suggestions - either on this forum or PM me

Stu

Well there are plenty of us here and we are all friendly!! Clubs are a bit thin on the ground and tend to be held in the evenings, there is the one jOhn runs in the Chant ave area, one in Cottingham and another in Beverley. There are Sunday afternoon sessions at Monks Walk (monthly) and the Sun both in Beverley...

This weekend is the Beverley Folk festival... which might be a good place to start meeting people, I would suggest the afternoon sessions especially in The Sun... or 'Iced Gems at teatime'... (run by Les & Maggie)wherever it is. There are lots of fringe events many of them during the day. I'm stewarding all weekend and would be very happy to say hello & introduce a few people... pm me if I can help

I went to Cottingham a couple of weeks ago to see Bob Fox.

Very nice comfortable room, no smoking and family friendly.

Well worth giving them a look up.

there's a superb session every sun from six at the oddfellows although they welcome children it's prob a bit late for little ones but i've always found helen n chris very friendly and welcoming so it might be worth popping in and having a chat with them. otherwise the first sun of the month at monks is an excellant way to meet likeminded peeps

There's a session in the Olde Black Boy (High Street) on the third Sunday (starts around 2.30pm).

The Olde Black Boy is one of Hull's oldest pubs (in fact the oldest in terms of continuous use), and there is adequate cycle parking just opposite - it's really a private carpark with a very useful fence! The Black Boy serves up to four guest beers and the room we use (the front one) is ideal for size and acoustics. And we accomodate songs, tunes, ancient and modern. But there will be no session this month because of the excellent Beverley and East Riding Folk Festival.

Thanks for the info so far - I shall pass it on - I hope to persuade her to join Mudcat as soon as she's up and running with a computer
