Subject: RE: BS: Tour of Britain anyone? From: GUEST,Van Date: 24 Jun 04 - 02:58 PM Tour of Britain my arse - a token stage in Wales the rest in England. I remember proper tours of Britain when they ventured north of the border. To good crowds too whenever i watched it. |

Subject: RE: BS: Tour of Britain anyone? From: Dave Masterson Date: 25 Jun 04 - 08:17 AM Unfortunately Van, you can only go so far on a bike in five days (even at racing speeds), although in previous editions of the race it has started/finished in Scotland. But you can't go everywhere every time can you? To see what could have been go here: http://sport.scotsman.com/other.cfm?id=1266642003 Seems to be the same old story – if it ain't soccer or watching paint dry (pronounced 'golf') forget it. Looks like the money men prepared to take a risk are in England. |

Subject: RE: BS: Tour of Britain anyone? From: Cats Date: 08 Jul 04 - 09:29 AM It's a great pity the Tour doesn't come anywhere near the West Country. A few years ago the Milk race started from Cornwall and it's never been back - something to do with it being too difficult!!! We have the possibility of a stunning stage near us.. 55 miles of bends and climbs between Bodmin and Tavistock via Gunnislake. Look at the map. A30, A388, then via kelly Bray and over the Tamar at Gunnislake and into Tavy. It would be brilliant. |

Subject: RE: BS: Tour of Britain anyone? From: Dave Masterson Date: 15 Jul 04 - 09:23 AM Ah, spoken like a true guest, GUEST. It may seem a dull thread to you, but it can't be as dull as a life spent trawling through Mudcat looking for threads to berate with your bad grace and language, then hiding behind the guest-wall. I won't say any more (much as I would like to) as it must be way past your bed-time so, off you go little one….. |

Subject: RE: BS: Tour of Britain anyone? From: Benjamin Date: 15 Jul 04 - 07:55 PM It's nice to see a smaller stage race atract such teams as USPS and CSC. Especially towards the end of the season. I can't wait to see who Postal sends, as well as Navigators. However, I'm not sure it's a good idea to have a race so close to the Vuelta next year as some of these teams (like USPS and CSC) will have to ride all three grand tours starting next year. |

Subject: RE: BS: Tour of Britain anyone? From: wysiwyg Date: 23 Jul 05 - 08:49 AM From http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/?id=2005/jul05/jul23news3: World Champion Michael Rogers to Race in Britain Double world time trial champion Michael Rogers has the chance to bounce back from his Tour de France disappointment when he lines out in the Tour of Britain on August 30. The Quick.Step rider will be aiming to get back to the sort of form which saw him hold the leader's jersey in the Tour of Switzerland. The six man ProTour squad will also include fellow Tour de France riders Stefano Zanini, winner of Tour of Britain stage 1 last year, and Wilfried Cretskens. Three strong riders complete the team, namely Filippo Pozzato, Davide Bramati and Nick Nuyens. Between them they have won stages in the Tour de France and Vuelta a España, plus the prestigious Paris-Brussels and Het Volk events. Tour of Britain race director Tony Doyle today welcomed the news of Michael Rogers's participation. "This is a great coup for the Tour of Britain," he said. "Having an elite rider like Michael is testament to the quality of the Tour of Britain. Michael is a tremendous rider, and to have a reigning world champion in any race is a sign of quality. He and the Quick.Step team will come into the tour with the view and mission statement for success." Yorkshire Tour ride A mass-participation ride has been launched to coincide with the Tour of Britain. Called the Yorkshire Tour Ride, it's a three-route ride open to all cyclists and will be run on August 28. Entrants will receive transponder timing, mechanical and nutritional back-up, full signposting and the backing of British Cycling. The three routes are as follows: Holme Moss Humdinger - 140km (87 miles) Challenge Distance Through northern Britain's cycling heartlands, with classic climbs of Holme Moss and Snake Pass along the way. Snake Pass Pedal - 80km (50 miles) Intermediate Distance Miss the monster climb of Holme Moss, but tackle the Snake Pass and enjoy the best scenery of the ride in the closing miles through Derbyshire. Le Bradfield Bicyclette - 30km (18.5 miles) Fun Distance Ideal for beginners and those at the early stages of building up their cycling fitness, this is an easy drift through the dales and valleys of the Bradfield area on the endge of the Pennines.
