Current Dublin music pubs?

I'm going to be in Dublin, Monday to Thursday inclusive next week.

Now that the pubs are smoke free, I'm hoping to find some good music pubs. Anyone know of any?

Ask in the Issac Butt, next to the bus station, if they still have a Monday night session. But ask early so if they don't you can move on !

Try Temple Bar area, Geogeagans in particular, think that is how you spell it.

I can recommend Gogartys here, in the Temple Bar area. They have Irish sessions there every day. I found it very friendly. I bought the CD "Gogartys Music" while I was there too, and it is a fine CD.

Hughes in Chancery Street (behind the FOur COurts on the quays) is your best bet - any night of the week. Its a musicians' pub so if you ask anyone in the general vicinity of the music, they'll tell you where else to go if you don't like it! Not much singing, mind you.

Most of the regular singing sessions close for the summer. The Cobblestones bar (within walking distance of Hughes) is often good for mixed instrumental/singing sessons.

And the great thing is that smoking is banned in workplaces now, including pubs, so I can actually go in without getting asthma for the next few days.

The Goleen singers meet every Friday night above a pub north of Parnell Square. Some SERIOUS singing. Someone here must have the bar's name.

Claddagh Records in Temple Bar.

For books: Try Cathach Books, off Dawson Street. The basement has a few books at reasonable proces which I suspect you'll be interested in, if yoiu don't already have them. Stock at ground level is more expensive.

Had a good night in O'Shea's Merchant Quay during the rugby weekend in March (not the part with loud music and bouncers, next door up the street). 3 ace button accordionists in one night!
Good shop for Irish music CDs in Nassau street also.
