POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. (AP) -- President Bush apparently mixed up his words Monday while delivering his usual campaign speech about the rising cost of health care.

"We need to do something about these frivolous lawsuits that are running up the cost of your health care and running good docs out of business," Bush said. "We've got an issue in America. Too many good docs are getting out of business. Too many OB/GYNs aren't able to practice their love with women all across this country."

The president was speaking to an applauding crowd of thousands of supporters in this southeast Missouri town of 16,500 people.

Perhaps if the medical profession had done a better job of policing itself for incompetent doctors, the malpractice judgements wouldn't be so high. Some lawsuits are justified. Sometimes people who are a threat to the public should be stopped from practicing.

Even though W can't speak English, we assume he meant too many OB/GYNs are being forced to close their practices due to frivolous lawsuits which drive their malpractice insurance premiums up so high that they can't stay in business. There. That wasn't so hard, was it?

Even when you know what he meant, it's another Bush classic. In the great state of Texas, where guess who was governor, OB/GYNs can and are being sued for problems that develop in babies they delivered up to their twenty first birthday. So, if your kid is not doing well in high school you can sue the doctor who delivered him claiming brain damage during the birthing process or incorrect prenatal care. We personally know at least one OB/GYN who closed his practice in Texas for that exact reason.

This is not the first time W has come out against something on the federal level which he supported when he was governor of Texas. And he says Kerry is flip-flopping.

I'm sure you have the correct meaning but my guess is that he was trying to phrase it something like "OB/GYNS are being forced to close their practices (which they love) due to frivolous lawsuits which drive their malpractice insurance premiums up so high that they can't stay in business." Otherwise bringing in 'love' makes no sense at all.

yeah, it is funny, and not a big issue by itself, but the hundreds of documented Bushisms we now have indicate to many that there is a basic flaw in the man's ability to read, comprehend and process information. People who have this problem tend to pick a few ideas, phrases and positions and repeat them endlessly, so they don't have to think on their feet. I would vote against such a person if he AGREED with everything I do, as he is bound to make important decisions based on limited comprehension at some point.

Breathing is automatic. With Bush, I'm not too sure. If he has to do that and talk simultaneously--maybe that's where the problem occurs. If yer thinking's tied up 'cause ya have to remember to breathe, and we breathe darn near all the time, then that don't leave too much time to think about what yer sayin'.

I think the main thing is his delivery of a prepared speech such as the acceptance one. Lots of 1984 Newspeak----Ownership society translates to torpodeing Social Security. No Child Left Behind(great slogan as usual)---provided it is funded--it is not--properly and equitably.   

Ad-libbing is not his forte---but his prepared speeches end up as double speak---of ("1984" Orwell novel) Newspeak.   Nothing means what it seems.

I think it was a great comment of Hillary Clinton---when Bill went to the hospital---thankfully we have health insurance. Sure, they are wealthy---but the comment says a lot about her, her party, and the difference in values.

Of course, Ebbie, there was NO reason to bring up women, since that is redundant: OB/GYNs treat only women. I think what happened is this:

Bush is talking about doctors being forced to go out of business. Rove has told him he should try to appeal to women as much as possible. He begins to ad lib:

(in his mind): "Ooh! I'll talk about OB/GYNs not being able to practice all across this country! Women will love that! "

(Out loud): "Too many OB/GYNs aren't able to practice their love with women all across this country."

(in his mind): "D'Oh!"
