In a session on Sunday I heard a great tune that I'd like to get the dots or abc for and asked what it was. Stupidly I never wrote it down and I'm sure it sounded like Tom Owls Polka. I've searched the net under this title and similar but no luck.

Any suggestions gratefully recieved.

Cheers,

Dazbo

Pick one! When looking for tunes, always try JC's first. You can click on gif, then scroll down to Other Formats, click midi, go back to the gif and watch the music while it plays.

I entered "Tom Fowler's Hornpipe"into Google and it came up with the ABC on the first page and is the version played by Mary Humphries and Anahata who I believe are both Mudcatters, hope this is the tune you want

Sorcha,

Thanks for the link but it looks like a tune that is played in sessions in Sheffield and I've been told it's called Tom Tulley's Hornpipe which is now about to be added to my collection.

Aha! That's cleared up the confusion in my mind. There are two very similar tunes with slightly different names.

According to the ABC Tunefinder website found by google:

T:Tom Tulley's Hornpipe
L:1/8
R:Hornpipe
O:England
B:Joshua Jackson ms (Geoff Bowen)
N:Tom Fowlers in Winder, but 8-bar 2nd part
Z:Richard Robinson
K:G

(DE)(FG) A2B2| (c3d/e/)d2 c2| BAGA D2F2| G6:!
:d2|g2bg e2ag| Tf4d4| g2ag e2ag| f4 d2ef|!
gddd gddd| gdgd gddd|(g3f) (ed)(cB)| ABAG F3E|!
DEFG A2B2| c3d/e/ d2c2| BAGA D2F2| G6 :|

X: 9
T:Tom Fowlers Hornpipe
M:4/4
L:1/8
R:Hornpipe
O:England
A:Lancashire
B:Winder collection
Z:Richard Robinson
K:G
Bc|dcBA Ggfg | e4 d4 |cdcB ABAG | F4 E4 | !

These are the two tunes and they look very similar indeed (although I'm no expert on ABC).

Thanks for posting the ABC. I'm going to learn this.

For info on the Joshua Jackson MS, where this tune is to be found, go here. Also a chance to buy a nice-sounding tune collection.
