My father-in-law asked me to learn this tune on my mandolin so I could play with him on his fiddle. I've googled and what not; but, I can't seem to find anything with this title. Do one of you wonderful Mudcatters know this tune - or another title for it - and/or somewhere I could find the notes or tablature?

Thanks in advance -- you're gonna make a fanastic 80-year old fella real happy!

All the best, Áine

Perhaps you are looking for 'Sail away lady/ladies'. If so, google ["Sail away ladies" + tablature] and you will get plenty of hits.

Thanks, Stewie; but no, it's not Sail Away Ladies. I called my father-in-law back and he told me that this tune is also known as Big Taters in Sandyland, or something to that effect. I looked in my Mandolin Player's Fake Book and it's not in there under either title.

All the best, Áine

Big Taters In Sandy Land (notation and midi: no source credited).

See also The Fiddler's Companion for background material and abc transcription (Great Big Tater[s] in Sandy Land).

Once again, Malcolm, you have come to my rescue ;-) Thank you so much for pointing me in the right direction. When I spoke to my father-in-law, I told him that one of my Mudcat buddies would be able to help. And in just two hours -- this place STILL amazes me, even after all these years.

Best wishes for a wonderful New Year, Áine
