Subject: Chord Req: Midwinter Waltz From: Herge Date: 10 Jan 05 - 07:48 PM Hi I'm looking for the chords to the Midwinters Waltz as recorded by Boys of the Lough. I play it on fiddle and want to give a guitarist friend the chords (not that many will equal the briliance of Chris Newman). Cheers |

Subject: RE: Chord Req: Midwinter Waltz From: Peace Date: 11 Jan 05 - 10:31 AM I have been looking. No luck so far. Didn't want you feeling ignored so I posted this to say I have nowt to post. |

Subject: RE: Chord Req: Midwinter Waltz From: Peace Date: 11 Jan 05 - 02:52 PM Try here www.alltabs.com/all_tabs.php - 82k or Google Boys of the Lough, chords, songs, midwinters waltz It will take you to two sites that show tabs. I can't bring either site up. However, if you can and you can tell me the key and the notes, I'll be able to tell you what chords might work. |

Subject: RE: Chord Req: Midwinter Waltz From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 12 Jan 05 - 02:37 PM Okay, let's see if we can have a community effort here. Here's a page that has the ABC for this waltz. http://www.nigelgatherer.com/tunes/general/gen2.html If somebody here will concert this to a MIDI and post the MIDI, then I will figure out what the chords are and post them. I'm curious to hear what the Midwinter Waltz is like, but I don't have the time today to work with the TexttoMIDI program. |

Subject: RE: Chord Req: Midwinter Waltz From: Herge Date: 12 Jan 05 - 04:51 PM I got this tune on MP3 but could obviously not send it by e-mail to anyone that sent me a personal message with their e-mail address!!!!!! So dont send me your address and I will not send you the MP3! |

Subject: RE: Chord Req: Midwinter Waltz From: John in Brisbane Date: 12 Jan 05 - 07:41 PM I've actually been doing some work on this from the original post. Found the ABC very quickly - which has some structural errors - but a bad back has prevented me sitting down at my PC for more than a few minutes. Should be back on the job before the end of the day. Regards, John |

Subject: RE: Chord Req: Midwinter Waltz From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 12 Jan 05 - 10:37 PM Right, Herge. I don't think an MP3 is much use here. Let's wait till John in Brisbane can get us the MIDI. What key do you play the waltz in? If you don't know, then just say what the first and last notes are that you play. |

Subject: RE: Chord Req: Midwinter Waltz From: John in Brisbane Date: 13 Jan 05 - 12:46 AM Here is the ABC Notation for the song with Chords added. The notation is longer than it needs to be but in order to correct some inherent errors in the construction of first and second endings. It is now one quite long piece. In order to get a score printed go HERE, and paste the notation below. The on-line converter will then give you the option to create sheet music in either GIF or PDF format. I note that the on-line PDF creator does something funny to the yop of Page 2 in the score, but have not had the opportunity to investigate further. Subject: RE: Chord Req: Midwinter Waltz From: John in Brisbane Date: 13 Jan 05 - 12:54 AM This notation should be somewhat easier for guitarists to read: X:419 T:Midwinter Waltz, A M:3/4 L:1/8 K:G"G"GA | B3 c d2 | d3 B "Am"A2 | A3 B A2 | "G"G4 "Em"EG | "Am"A3 B A2 | A3 B A2 | "G"G3 ABc | "Am"A4 "G"GA | B3 c d2 | d3 B "Am"A2 | A3 B A2 | "G"G4 "Em"EG | "Am"A3 B A2 | A3 B A2 | "G"G3 A G2 | G4 :| "Am"AB | c3 B c2 | c3 B c2 | e3 d e2 | A3 B c2 | "G"d3 e d2 | B3 A G2 | "Am"A3 B "G"G2 | "Am"A4 AB | c3 B c2 | c3 B c2 | e3 d e2 | A3 B c2 | "G"d3 e d2 | B3 A G2 | "Am"A3 B A2 | "G"G4 :| GA | B3 c d2 | d3 B "Am"A2 | A3 B A2 | "G"G4 "Em"EG | "Am"A3 B A2 | A3 B A2 | "G"G3 ABc | "Am"A4 "G"GA | B3 c d2 | d3 B "Am"A2 | A3 B A2 | "G"G4 "Em"EG | "Am"A3 B A2 | A3 B A2 | "G"G3 A G2 | G4 :| "Am"AB | c3 B c2 | c3 B c2 | e3 d e2 | A3 B c2 | "G"d3 e d2 | B3 A G2 | "Am"A3 B "G"G2 | "Am"A4 "G"GA | B3 c d2 | d3 B "Am"A2 | A3 B A2 | "G"G4 "Em"EG | "Am"A3 B A2 | A3 B A2 | "G"G3 A G2 | G4 |] |

Subject: RE: Chord Req: Midwinter Waltz From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 13 Jan 05 - 01:16 PM I have performed the transformation. I've never heard this piece as performed by the Boys of the Lough, but it is hard to believe that this is all of it. It has only two sections and they are very much alike. It shows only two chords (G and Am). Is that really all there is to it? |
