Subject: mp3s From: mm Date: 29 Nov 98 - 08:04 AM Are mp3 files of Celtic music available? I would often like to hear a track from an album a few times before committing myself to buying the album, and mp3s are a handy way of doing this. Don't get me wrong - I don't want to do any artist out of the royalties. But mp3s are a great way of sampling an album or an artist's style to see if you want to lash out half a week's wages on the full |

Subject: RE: mp3s From: Bill Cameron Date: 29 Nov 98 - 11:45 AM They're starting to turn up. There's a couple now in the "Folk" section at mp3.com (Seamus Kennedy singing "The Old Dun Cow" and Lisa Moscatiello "The House Carpenter" (Child ballad I think, not sure if its technically Celtic--then again what is.) MP3 is not a pirate site, its got a great concept. Artists of all genres convert their CD's to mp3 format and upload the tracks to mp3.com, indicating which one is the freebie to post on the site. Users sample the free song, and if they want to order the CD--this is hard to believe--mp3.com manufactures it, sells it to them for $5-$10 US, and pays the artist 50% a royalty. Is this not unbelievable? |
