Subject: Serious Musician? Don't Read This! From: Jeri Date: 07 Feb 05 - 07:08 PM It's technically music, but it's so close to BS that I wasn't sure where to stick it. I'm sure there will be suggestions, I was perusing uk.music.folk newsgroup, and someone had posted a link to the The Faerie's Aire and Death Waltz You might have seen it, but it was my first time! Go to the The Saint James Music Press ("We're good, we're cheap, and we're snooty"), and check out the "Humor" section. |

Subject: RE: Serious Musician? Don't Read This! From: Mooh Date: 07 Feb 05 - 11:21 PM Love that Death Waltz, it's been hanging in the local high school music room for years, though not readable. I can finally read what all those directions are! Thanks. I just printed it out for my studio, hoping to freak out a few students...oh that's Death Wish, not Waltz. (LOL) Cool. Peace, Mooh. |

Subject: RE: Serious Musician? Don't Read This! From: Little Hawk Date: 07 Feb 05 - 11:39 PM Ha! Ha! Ha! Wonderful, Jeri. I would love to hear Alyssa attempt that one on the cello. She can play almost anything. |

Subject: RE: Serious Musician? Don't Read This! From: Jeri Date: 07 Feb 05 - 11:45 PM There's a page 2, but I wonder if it's original. It's just a tad less subtle. I DO like the "switch to aluminum bow" bit. I actually own an aluminum bow. |

Subject: RE: Serious Musician? Don't Read This! From: Little Hawk Date: 07 Feb 05 - 11:59 PM A-MAZing! I have printed out both pages, and will present them to Alyssa and see what she can do with it. I'll try 'em on Daylia too...she's a superb piano player, so I figure she's got a fighting chance. |

Subject: RE: Serious Musician? Don't Read This! From: Kaleea Date: 08 Feb 05 - 12:24 AM I haven't thought about this for years. When I was in Music school we used to mess around playing around this "chart" in the practice rooms, and then it became more of us before orchestra rehearsals. Some of the guys would yell out the musical indications as they came. We didn't know that our Orch prof. was listening to the din once, & when he came in red faced & still laughing hysterically, we knew he'd caught on. He liked it so much that we included it in a concert in the Music dept., but with him conducting and therefore hollaring out above the din. Word got out that we were going to do something, & most all of the profs & students were there rolling with laughter. We released balloons--that we had drawn penguins on--at the appropriate spot, string players had bows wrapped with aluminum foil, played the underneath side of the fiddlesetc., & such foolishness. This the finale of the concert. It almost really did bring the house down. Fortunately, it was not recorded for "posterior." The next week we analyzed it for our Theory: Forms & Analysis class. It was alot more fun that when I was in Jr. Hi. & we used to do the theme songs from "George of the Jungle" cartoons--with the Timpani, & "Hogan's Heroes" before the band director came back from his break for concert band. |

Subject: RE: Serious Musician? Don't Read This! From: Helen Date: 12 Aug 05 - 06:13 PM I didn't see this back in Feb. Someone referred to it on the Harplist so I went searching for it. I've just sent it to my sister. I was going to start a thread about it here but of course Mudcatters are always one jump ahead and it was already here. The page I found by Googling has a Japanese inspired version as well. http://apollo.u-gakugei.ac.jp/~yoshiki/chalow/2005-01-03-8.html Helen |

Subject: RE: Serious Musician? Don't Read This! From: GUEST Date: 12 Aug 05 - 08:12 PM Jeri's link to Page 2 looks like something Zappa would enjoy ...but then again, he was a serious musician. |

Subject: RE: Serious Musician? Don't Read This! From: Dani Date: 12 Aug 05 - 11:29 PM That first link didn't work for me, Jeri. I did enjoy the hell out of the St. James site, though. Only one thing... I don't get the Gift for the Altos thing. Does that have something to do with how when I was a kid in the choir the pieces were written out for "girls" and "the guys and Dani"? Dani |
|
Subject: RE: Serious Musician? Don't Read This! From: Helen Date: 15 Aug 05 - 05:32 AM Dani, I wasn't sure if it meant that Altos are big lasses with big chests to create that rich full sound. Did you listen to the song demo of O Holy Night. Excruciatingly painful. I winced all the way through it. V. funny! Helen |
