Subject: March Shanty Session at the Press Room From: curmudgeon Date: 13 Mar 05 - 06:33 PM Next Saturday is the date for the March shanty / forebitter session at the Press Room, 77 Daniel Street, Portsmouth NH at 3:30. While the session usually runs till 7:30, this month it will end at 6:15, as Linn and I are part of the annual Irish Show in Dover and need to be there by 7:00. However, if some stalwart regular wishes to "be responsible," the session can run till 7:30 -- Tom |

Subject: RE: March Shanty Session at the Press Room From: JudyB Date: 14 Mar 05 - 12:14 PM Charley - Don't you need to be in Wakefield by 8:00? Mapquest says it's 50 miles or so, so even if it's mostly on I-95, 30 minutes seems as if you might be cutting it a little close.... JudyB |

Subject: RE: March Shanty Session at the Press Room From: curmudgeon Date: 14 Mar 05 - 09:08 PM Judy is right; you need to plan on at least an hour to get to Wakefield. The session will end when it ends. Of course, if any of you are gluttons for punishment, you might consider atending the Dover Irish Show. Its an old fashioned community production, 50/50 professionals and amateurs, lots of songs to sing along with, both trad and Oirish, piping, step dancing, recitations, comedy, etc. Meanwhile, I'm girding my loins for my 29th St. Patrick's day at the Press Room. the Friday night session, the Saturday shanty session, the Irish Show and the Bob Zentz concert and work on Monday -- Tom |

Subject: RE: March Shanty Session at the Press Room From: SINSULL Date: 14 Mar 05 - 10:42 PM Good question, Julia. Corsets? Girdles? Unitards? Jocks straps? Thongs? Inquiring minds want to know. |

Subject: RE: March Shanty Session at the Press Room From: Charley Noble Date: 15 Mar 05 - 08:58 AM Fred and Julia- Don't for get to stop in at the Bob Zentz Concert at the Press Room Sunday afternoon, 2-4 pm, after your show in Avon, CT. Should be a piece of crepe for old troopers like you! As for my own plans, I think I'll just enjoy the Shanty Sing on Saturday and skip the Zentz concert in Wakefield that same evening. I really don't need one more place to find in an unfamilar town, and it's a house concert to boot. I can just imagine stumbling around, door to door, trying to read the house numbers in the dark, or asking people walking their Dobermen Pinchers if they've seen a fella with half a dozen concertinas and other musical instruments passing by. Nah, I'll have a bite to eat at the Press Room and scoot back to Boston to catch up with JudyB and whatever after business party she's attending. Cheerily, Charley Noble |

Subject: RE: March Shanty Session at the Press Room From: SINSULL Date: 20 Mar 05 - 08:13 AM Short but sweet one since Tom and Linn as well as a few others had to leave for gigs and rehearsals. The highlight for me - a young man of about 13 singing "Going Down To Maui" and Charley's "Outside Track". See you all later at Bob Zentz's concert. |

Subject: RE: March Shanty Session at the Press Room From: GUEST,Bat Goddess Date: 20 Mar 05 - 10:15 AM The Irish Show in Dover went smashingly. Bridget McFidget was a stitch and (I think) the highlight of the show. "Cushie McCoy" went over well, too, I admit. It was great to have the Kennebunkport (or was it Arundel?) contingent back again. They'd come down for the shanty session once before over a year ago. The young fellow's name is Rick, I think, and the older man (perhaps my age?!?) with the concertina and really interesting repertoire is Rich. Somewhere in my files I may have the name of the woman with the flute and the fellow with the guitar. Who knows; we may see them at the Bob Zentz concert today. Linn |
