Is there an audio file to "A Smuggler's Song" by Kipling. Peter Dawson sang it, amongst others. Better still, has anyone ever worked out the accompanient chords to post here?

A quick search of the title, and, "ta-da!" found some chords posted by Mudcat's very own Charley Noble. Just CLICK HERE.

I'll see if I can find an audio of it, too.

Welcome to the Mudcat.

There's a good version, imo, at CDBaby, done by the New Scorpion Band: CLICK HERE.

Tks, brucie. 'Twas the "chords" clued me in.:-)

From what I've seen in a Mudcat search and google, there seem to be several different musical versions of this. One mentioned on Mudcat is by Michael Longor; another by Peter Bellamy. I have a tape of Dawson, but cannot remember if this song is on it or not. Will have to look.

Thanks Kat, I think you must have a different melody, as the Peter Dawson version is quite a song, has two sections and is beyond my music ability to nut out. Shall persevere. Is the sheet music available?

I haven't found any, so far, L-man, but here are some links which may help. Also, we do have some very knowledgable members in Australia who will probably show up, soon, and have it right at their fingertips.:-)

Here ya go, first some info in the DigiTrad, here at the Mudcat, which may help: [Rudyard Kipling/Bellamy] (It is correctly called A Smuggler's Song, and appeared in Puck of Pook's Hill. Midi made from notation of Bellamy's music as given in The Song and the Story (Isla St Clair and David Turnbull, 1981).)
Though, again, that is apparently Bellamy's version.

I also found the following sites which look REALLY interesting:

music australia.org

Callaway centre

Good luck!

Sounds like a slower version of the Cindy Mangsen recording.
