Subject: LYRICS REQUESTED From: Zorro Date: 05 Dec 98 - 09:41 PM I just heard a neat song on PBS, or part of it. The first two lines: "I wish my picture was on the cover of Rollin' Stone today. Wish the (National) Inquirer would start a rumor I was gay...." That's all I remember. The gist was if any of those things were true I wouldn't have time to think about the way you broke my heart again. I heard in on PBS, it sounded like one of those singer - songwriter types.. Neat song, very simple melody.. Does any body know what, whence and who ?? Thanks much.. Zorro |

Subject: RE: LYRICS REQUESTED From: alexia panes Date: 12 Dec 98 - 02:41 AM I heard a song when I was a child. It went something like this... "Rock'n roll'n ride'n out along the bay. All bound for morning town many miles away." I forget the rest of the words. If anyone knows the title of this song and where I can get the lyrics would you please email me at alexiap@hotmail.com. Thank you I really appreciate your help. |

Subject: RE: LYRICS REQUESTED From: Sandy Paton Date: 12 Dec 98 - 02:55 AM Alexia: That's Malvina Reynolds' song titled "Morningtown Ride," I think. The Limeliters recorded it back during the great folk scare. Some of the better memories around here can probably come up with the album title, date of issue, label, catalog number, and a slew of additional data. I only know the song. Subject: RE: Morningtown Ride From: Joe Offer Date: 12 Dec 98 - 03:23 AM Well, I guess I have to admit it was the Sesame Street version of the song I posted a while back (click here). It's pretty close to Malvina's original, though. -Joe Offer- |

Subject: RE: LYRICS REQUESTED From: Jerry Friedman Date: 14 Dec 98 - 12:43 PM Blake, I too remember that song from childhood. It's actually the chorus of a song by someone named Tom, possibly Glaser but I'm not sure. It's in a children's songbook my mother has. The first verse starts, "This is for the children who haven't been on the train./ (Something) California all the way to Maine." As for the chorus, Alison's version of the first line is correct. |

Subject: Lyr Add: DOWN BY THE STATION (Four Preps Version) From: SteveF Date: 14 Dec 98 - 04:06 PM Okay, children, all together now: DOWN BY THE STATION The Four Preps
Down by the station early in the morning
Down in the malt shop shortly thereafter

Down by the station early in the morning
(Repeat and fade on 2nd repeat)

Subject: RE: LYRICS REQUESTED From: BSeed Date: 15 Dec 98 - 02:52 AM Zorro, see what happens when you don't put anything about the song in the thread title? It gets taken over by another song entirely. Remember the other thread that started out with a posting Re: Lyrics Wanted but no message, no song identified? That one turned into one of the more entertaining threads of the summer. --seed |

Subject: RE: LYRICS REQUESTED From: Joe Offer Date: 15 Dec 98 - 11:59 PM OK, Let me give you a hint, folks. The people who know the songs you're looking for seldom bother to look at a thread like this with the generic title of "Lyrics Requested." Another one they try to ignore is "Desparately Seeking Lyrics," although they do often wonder why desperately is always spelled wrong in such messages. So, here are some suggestions: Search the database and forum first. If it's not a folk song, you may want to search databases provided on our Links page. If you still can't find it, here's how to get help in the Forum:1. Create a new thread (click here) Be specific. Let the title say what you're looking for. Oh, and don't expect an e-mail response to your request. Check your thread a few times over the next few days. Most likely, somebody will post your song for all to see.I hope this helps. Note all the clickable links to search functions in this message. the links should take you anywhere you'll need to go here. Once you've found your song, stick around for the discussion. We have a lot of fun here. -Joe Offer- |
