Ted Poole is 80 on 3rd May 2005 so we are going to have a party for him at the Swindon Folksingers Club on Friday 6th May.

We hope it's going to be a surprise so please tell all your friends but ask them not to let on to Ted.

Ted, with his wife Ivy, have run the Swindon Folksingers Club for over 45 years. There may be one or two clubs that have been running longer but certainly not with the same organisers throughout. Ted adn Ivy should be honoured for their tenacity (or is that just bloody mindedness!) Mind you he'd turn down any gong from the Queen!!!

In all those 45 years they have nurtured one of the best singers clubs in the country. Mick Ryan and Dave Webber first aired the vocal chords at the club.

The Swindon Folksingers Club meets at the Gorse Hill Club, Chapel Street, Swindon on Fridays from 8.15pm.

Ted Poole refuse a gong from the Queen?!
I'm not so sure,we never thought that he would stoop so low as to
buy his own house!!

I won't be able to be there on 6th May, but I would like to add my best wishes to Ted and Ivy for their outstanding support of traditional song covering 5 decades. Also, I would like to think that someone will be making the case for one of them to get an MBE. They have certainly done more to deserve it than some who get the award.
