Subject: BS: Foamhenge From: Fibula Mattock Date: 20 Jun 05 - 06:47 AM There's something special about lifesize polystyrene replicas of famous monuments and I for one wish I could afford the transport and storage costs for Foamhenge, as shown on UK TV (Channel 5) tonight and tomorrow. They're selling it on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=60694&item=6187189408&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW Buyer to collect, naturally. Remember: this solstice, eschew the mundane and reach out to the wonder of visual representation that is Foamhenge! |

Subject: RE: BS: Foamhenge From: Alba Date: 20 Jun 05 - 07:20 AM Fibula, all I can think of is, if only "Spinal Tap" could have had this particular Foamhenge instead of the mini model they used..lol Summer Solstice Blessings to all, Jude |

Subject: RE: BS: Foamhenge From: Noreen Date: 20 Jun 05 - 07:22 AM LOL! So, the Mudcat retirement home must have a VERY large garden for this installation... Fibs, you can be in charge of correct alignment :0) |

Subject: RE: BS: Foamhenge From: Rapparee Date: 20 Jun 05 - 09:02 AM Tsk, tsk. Woodhenge. (It's found in a UN World Heritage Site.) |

Subject: RE: BS: Foamhenge From: Fibula Mattock Date: 20 Jun 05 - 09:19 AM Tsk tsk indeed! That Woodhenge is much much later than "our" Woodhenge: http://www.english-heritage.org.uk/stonehengeinteractivemap/sites/woodhenge/01.html Woodhenges are so common ;) I'm voting for a Phonehenge - one made entirely out of mobile phones, preferably with awful Enya type New Age crap warbling ring tones. |

Subject: RE: BS: Foamhenge From: GUEST,Fullerton Date: 20 Jun 05 - 09:19 AM Sadly the auction has closed. You just can't get a decent sacrificial altar ANYWHERE these days |

Subject: RE: BS: Foamhenge From: Rapparee Date: 20 Jun 05 - 09:33 AM You must remember that this was done by pre-Colonial Colonials, who were a bit behind Merry Old. |

Subject: RE: BS: Foamhenge From: Fibula Mattock Date: 20 Jun 05 - 09:41 AM They nicked the bluprints, if you ask me. I don't buy it that they independently came up with the idea of sticking sticks in the ground in a circular fashion! No way, this reeks of plagiarism. |
|
Subject: RE: BS: Foamhenge From: Alba Date: 20 Jun 05 - 10:06 AM I agree Fibula. the Aliens already done that long before Humans thought of it. We all know who really built that Stone Structure near Glastonbury, I do anyway. They told me when they abducted me. Love and LOL Jude |

Subject: RE: BS: Foamhenge From: JennyO Date: 20 Jun 05 - 10:40 AM Foamhenge! LOLOLOLOL! I gotta show this one to John! He just built a large rocky cliff out of foam for his model train setup. The rocks look quite real, but if you poke them they are soft. Weird! For anyone who has Java and would like to inspect Foamhenge a little more closely, I found this: Foamhenge Virtual Tour You can swing round 360 degrees, move left or right, up or down, and zoom in and out. Oh joy :-) |

Subject: RE: BS: Foamhenge From: wysiwyg Date: 20 Jun 05 - 11:02 AM Why not make your own via stagecraft-- basic wooden rectangular form covered with hardware cloth, stucco, and faux finish? ~S~ |

Subject: RE: BS: Foamhenge From: JennyO Date: 20 Jun 05 - 12:56 PM What would you call that one - brahenge? |
|
Subject: RE: BS: Foamhenge From: Rapparee Date: 20 Jun 05 - 01:13 PM Domehenge. "God, Country, Notre Dame -- but not necessarily in that order." |
|
Subject: RE: BS: Foamhenge From: Sorcha Date: 20 Jun 05 - 02:54 PM LOL! LOVE the Bra Fence! Much better than old cowboy boots! |
|
Subject: RE: BS: Foamhenge From: Liz the Squeak Date: 20 Jun 05 - 03:21 PM Such a shame that they upset so many people by digging up and conserving Seahenge, only to have it burn to cinders in a fire in the hanger it was being conserved in..... that's something you won't find anywhere on a news report - it was considered too sensitive to release. I know about it because I know one of the conservitors who was working on it. Sacrificial altars can be quite easily replicated, it's finding the sacrifice that's the real problem.... 'No-one wants to end up under the altar in a crouching position!' LTS |

Subject: RE: BS: Foamhenge From: John MacKenzie Date: 20 Jun 05 - 03:22 PM Cup size 8 and a half Sorch? G.. |
|
Subject: RE: BS: Foamhenge From: Bunnahabhain Date: 20 Jun 05 - 05:14 PM Don't know if you noticed it, but eBay had listed 'Stonehenge' under postcards.... Liz, you're right it would be kept quiet if Sea Henge was destroyed in a fire. It's being conserved by the Mary Rose trust, so if there was some accident like that, the media would simply forget to mention Sea Henge. Could have sworn you live in the US. Working in Portsmouth must be a fair commute... |
|
Subject: RE: BS: Foamhenge From: John Hardly Date: 20 Jun 05 - 05:17 PM Foam would be lighter (and thus more convenient) but it might not last quite as long as the original, would it? ....cool though -- it would float. |

Subject: RE: BS: Foamhenge From: Don(Wyziwyg)T Date: 20 Jun 05 - 05:52 PM Come on somebody, here's a chance to get rid of some of those bastards from our UK roads. I WANT TO SEE CONEHENGE. Preferably right outside of the House of Commons. Don T. |

Subject: RE: BS: Foamhenge From: jimmyt Date: 20 Jun 05 - 08:26 PM I actually saw Foamhenge about one mile from Natural Bridge Virginia, about 3 weeks ago. Sure casues you to take a second look when you come around the corner and encounter this replica! Websites about at are on any search. |
|
Subject: RE: BS: Foamhenge From: JennyO Date: 20 Jun 05 - 11:12 PM Fibula Mattock mentioned earlier the idea of Phonehenge. Well here it is Phonehenge In fact there are lots of them! |
|
Subject: RE: BS: Foamhenge From: Liz the Squeak Date: 21 Jun 05 - 04:03 AM Bunn - I don't live in the States, I don't work in Portsmouth but I do have a conservitor friend who helped sift through the ashes of Seahenge and try to rescue what she could. It was being stored in Norfolk at the time, not Portsmouth, so the Mary Rose was never in any danger being over 200 miles away. Information on Seahenge seems to have 'dried up'... This seems to be the latest news. There is a 2 year gap where nothing seems to have happened and I could find nothing. The media did not 'forget' to mention it.. they were told not to. After the upset caused by digging the thing out in the first place, imagine the effect the news of a fire would have! LTS |

Subject: RE: BS: Foamhenge From: Kaleea Date: 21 Jun 05 - 04:47 AM Interesting "hinges." I saw something a few years back about "Fridgehenge." Refrigerators. Anybody ever see that one? I don't know where there's a pic of it, tho. |

Subject: RE: BS: Foamhenge From: Fibula Mattock Date: 21 Jun 05 - 07:06 AM Thanks you lot, there's enough material for a whole lecture here. It was a beautiful solstice sunrise today as the weather is so fine, and those polystyrene rocks looked pretty damn impressive! |

Subject: RE: BS: Foamhenge From: JennyO Date: 21 Jun 05 - 08:52 AM Apparently there was a fridgehenge built in New Zealand, but it doesn't exist any more. I did manage to find a picture of one in New Mexico though.. fridgehenge (or stonefridge) |
