Subject: Starbucks to release Dylan Boot From: Steve Latimer Date: 28 Jun 05 - 02:22 PM I've never been in a Starbucks in my life. I guess I will have to now. Live At The Gaslight 1962 Talk about a World Gone Wrong. |

Subject: RE: Starbucks to release Dylan Boot From: WFDU - Ron Olesko Date: 28 Jun 05 - 02:29 PM Funny, I did not think Dylan would ever need to go back to the coffeehouse scene. |

Subject: RE: Starbucks to release Dylan Boot From: Clinton Hammond Date: 28 Jun 05 - 02:34 PM Crap he couldn't give away then, is now gonna mke him more money that he doesn't need cause these once-hippies-now-yuppies have more money than brains... |

Subject: RE: Starbucks to release Dylan Boot From: WFDU - Ron Olesko Date: 28 Jun 05 - 02:36 PM Before we criticize Dylan for making a buck, what about all the people that stole money by selling bootlegs of these recordings? At least Dylan will clean them up so they can be listenable. Say what you will, I can never criticize someone for making a living - no matter how much money they earn. |

Subject: RE: Starbucks to release Dylan Boot From: Clinton Hammond Date: 28 Jun 05 - 02:40 PM " Dylan will clean them up so they can be listenable." Is he ever? "no matter how much money they earn" How much money does one guy need? I hope he supports good charites.... Instead of just drug habbits. |

Subject: RE: Starbucks to release Dylan Boot From: artbrooks Date: 28 Jun 05 - 02:41 PM And besides, Starbucks does have good coffee and, at $1.50 for a cup (if you provide your own cup), isn't particularly unreasonable. |
|
Subject: RE: Starbucks to release Dylan Boot From: WFDU - Ron Olesko Date: 28 Jun 05 - 02:42 PM He is very listenable. As for his habits and charities, it really is not our business. Let's hope he has a conscience. |

Subject: RE: Starbucks to release Dylan Boot From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 28 Jun 05 - 02:54 PM New and interesting coffee beans are always available at Starbucks. Considering the cost of premises and help, their coffee, latte and etc. and pastries are not only good but reasonable. Now another reason to patronize them. |
|
Subject: RE: Starbucks to release Dylan Boot From: WFDU - Ron Olesko Date: 28 Jun 05 - 02:58 PM Frankly, I'm not crazy about their coffee, their anti-union status, and how they have wiped out other venues with their tactics. |

Is that 'Patronise' as in 'to give them custom'? or 'Patronise' as in 'to adopt a condescending air towards'? Nigel |

Subject: RE: Starbucks to release Dylan Boot From: Dave Ruch Date: 28 Jun 05 - 03:04 PM Yeah, but like you said, Ron, you cant criticize anybody for making a living.... |

Subject: RE: Starbucks to release Dylan Boot From: WFDU - Ron Olesko Date: 28 Jun 05 - 03:17 PM Good point Dave. |
|
Subject: RE: Starbucks to release Dylan Boot From: dwditty Date: 28 Jun 05 - 03:23 PM Yep, they can make a living...but I think their coffee tastes like poop. Ok, have at it. |
|
Subject: RE: Starbucks to release Dylan Boot From: WFDU - Ron Olesko Date: 28 Jun 05 - 03:24 PM one mans poop is another mans latte Everyone has different tastes. I know many people that love Starbucks. I find it too strong, but it doesn't mean that the coffee is bad, just not appealing to my taste buds. |

Subject: RE: Starbucks to release Dylan Boot From: GUEST,Sleepless Dad Date: 28 Jun 05 - 03:53 PM Clinton is just jealous. No one is forcing anyone to buy this CD so what's the issue ? If you like Dylans early music - buy it. If you don't - don't. It seems pretty simple to me. And you can drink your Maxwell House at home. |
|
Subject: RE: Starbucks to release Dylan Boot From: Clinton Hammond Date: 28 Jun 05 - 03:55 PM Folgers actually.... "No one is forcing anyone to buy this CD" No one is stopping me from critizing people who do either... |

Subject: RE: Starbucks to release Dylan Boot From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 28 Jun 05 - 03:56 PM Imitators such as the "Second Cup" chain seem to be flourishing, and owner-operated coffee shops are in every small shopping district here. The non-union attitude on the part of the populace has encouraged a flourishing economy here in Alberta. Starbucks wages are adequate, if not high, and employees are taking advantage of the stock options. The example of Starbucks has actually increased the number and quality of small coffee and pastry shops here. Calgary, metro area well over 1 million, is typical of expanding population centres in the west. Union activity back east, but it is minimal here, mostly confined to teachers and nurses. Starbucks has begun to put satellites inside chain food stores (Safeway here), adding to the pleasure of this weekly chore. The only loss seems to be some of the old greasy spoon-dirty apron holes- good riddance. I think the proliferation of good restaurants, especially ethnic, however, is the real reason for the disappearance of the greasy plate 'cafes' with their creaky coffee counters. And thanks to the powers that be that Starbucks sells cds, but are (at least here) music-free. |

Subject: RE: Starbucks to release Dylan Boot From: Clinton Hammond Date: 28 Jun 05 - 04:01 PM " The only loss seems to be some of the old greasy spoon" But when Walmart does it to the cruddy little mom&pop harware and clothing shops, Mudcatters whail, gnash their teeth, and rend their clothes.... Starbucks is exactly the same cookie-cutter sell-out mentality as Walmart and Bob Dylan, so where's the outrage?? |
|
Subject: RE: Starbucks to release Dylan Boot From: GUEST,Sleepless Dad Date: 28 Jun 05 - 04:12 PM It's a non-issue really. Anyone who thinks that Bob Dylan is a cookie cutter show an amazing lack of knowledge about pop music in general. If we were talking about Brittany Spears or Destiny's Child the argument would hold water. It still boils down to people have a choice of where they can spend their hard earned money. If they want to buy some Dylan at Starbucks then none of us can say anything about it. You can complain all we want - but who's going to care ? Big flippin' deal. |
|
Subject: RE: Starbucks to release Dylan Boot From: Clinton Hammond Date: 28 Jun 05 - 04:15 PM "but who's going to care ?" Aaaaahhh! A glimmer of hope from Sleepless Dad.... |
|
Subject: RE: Starbucks to release Dylan Boot From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 28 Jun 05 - 04:18 PM Every neighborhood shopping strip or mall here seems to have its owner-operated women's wear shop. Hammond is correct, however; the cruddy little places are gone or on the way out. I don't like Walmart and their emphasis on Chinese goods, but the world is homogenizing. Like it or not. |
|
Subject: RE: Starbucks to release Dylan Boot From: dwditty Date: 28 Jun 05 - 04:21 PM Yes, isn't it great to know you can feel at hom eanywhere in the US. Just go to the busy commercial street and there they all are - lined up just like anywhere else...Starbuck's, Home Depot, Staples, Friday's, Barnes & Noble, McDonald's, Wendy's, Burger King, Sports Authority, Walmart, and on and on and on. Yeah, I know ther eis nothing I can do about it, but I don't have to like it. dw |

Subject: RE: Starbucks to release Dylan Boot From: Clinton Hammond Date: 28 Jun 05 - 04:35 PM "Walmart and their emphasis on Chinese goods" They sell exactly the same crud as the mom&pop stores.... |
|
Subject: RE: Starbucks to release Dylan Boot From: Little Hawk Date: 28 Jun 05 - 05:58 PM You're a sorry excuse for a skunk-killer, Clinton. I find Dylan totally listenable. I care. Mind you, I've already heard boots of the Gaslight show, so why buy one from Starbucks? No one is forcing you to be reasonable, Clinton. ;-) |

Subject: RE: Starbucks to release Dylan Boot From: JohnInKansas Date: 26 Jul 05 - 01:33 AM For Dylan fans, and especially for Little Hawk perhaps: Shoe on Dylan. No comment needed? John |
