Subject: English Acoustic Collective 30th June From: GUEST,surreysinger Date: 29 Jun 05 - 05:56 PM English Acoustic Collective will be appearing in collaboration with the Tacet Ensemble (a contemporary classical group) on Thursday 30th June at 8pm at Cranleigh Arts Centre in Surrey. Tickets are £12, and can be obtained from the box office on 01483 278000. Each group will play individually, choosing repertoire which demonstrates similar musical concerns. Both groups will be joining up at the end of the evening to play new works by Peter Wiegold, Alison Kay and Chris Wood. These commissioned pieces are the result of the composers and the two groups working together at a series of collaboration days. The concert has recently been performed at the Crawley Festival, and in Brighton, together with another "Junctions" collaboration between the Tacet Ensemble and the Copper Family. |

Subject: RE: English Acoustic Collective 30th June From: Dave Earl Date: 29 Jun 05 - 06:07 PM I saw the Brighton performance. The Coppers were as they always are but Tacet Ensemble are "Contemporary Classic" which is not to my taste. However check it out and decide for yourselves whatever else the Copper family are always worth seeing and Tacet ensmbles are excellent muscicians whether I liked their stuff or not. Dave Earl |

Subject: RE: English Acoustic Collective 30th June From: The Borchester Echo Date: 29 Jun 05 - 06:38 PM The Copper family has not yet joined the EAC (or hadn't when I last looked) even though they seem to be bleedin' everywhere these days. The Cranleigh concert has Chris Wood, Rob Harbron and John Dipper only sharing a stage with the Tacet Ensemble. |

Subject: RE: English Acoustic Collective 30th June From: GUEST Date: 29 Jun 05 - 06:45 PM I saw both junctions events at the Crawley festival last weekend The Tacet Ensemble are a fine set of musicians connected I believe with Sussex University in some way. They do play Contemporary Classical music which some may find challenging but which i personally have been comfortable with for some years now. I thought the modern music at these concerts was very accessible though. I enjoyed both concerts though they were very different. The EAC have always struck me as taking their music very seriously (although Chris Wood wears his undoubted talent and knowledge very lightly)and I felt they were very much on the same wavelength as Tacet. There seemed to be a great deal of mutual respect among the musicians. The concert was a mix of pieces played by the two ensembles and pieces played together. Frankly it worked brilliantly well. The Copper family event was more one of contrast between the songs and the music commissioned in response to the songs. The Coppers were magnificent (well you would hardly expect less) and the modern music was never less than interesting. I thoroughly enjoyed the evening. I would recommend these concerts to anyone with a sense of adventure. |
