One of the many songs I liked playing when I first played in the Village in N.Y was and is (The Ballad of the Thresher.) Not to be confused with The Phil Ochs version.
This version was cut by The Kingstn Trio on an album called (Sunny Side) Song was about the Nuc Sub that sank off the coast of New england bout 1962. I belileve John Stewart did the banjo lines on the album. The banjo almost sounded like it had an off open tuning. Im familair with most open tunings but the way John played this song has me forever stuped. Is any one on to the way the thresher was played on that album.

Oh the thresher- the finest atomic ship
that ever sailed for the sea
each man on board was a volenteer
was there cause he chose there to be
chorous
---every man jack on board was a hero
every man jack on board there was brave
every man jack on board was a hero
each man risked a watery grave

There was a recent thread on this & the USS Scorpion (the only other peace time loss of all hand for the silent service). Mayeb Joe could do you a click here to get you to that thread, he's great like that (my hero *wink*), or you could go to the forum search & enter in the sub names.
Greg F. I know you'll be dropping in on this. Thanks for the periodical on the Scorpion, I don't know how my brother will take it when I see him next but I've never gotten much out of him maybe seeing/reading that will help him to let it go. I am forever deeply indebt to you for your kindness. If I don't see you here I'll be e-mailing you. Thank you. Barry

Joe you're a prince. But I hope you still think me OK after reading my reply in the RUS thread, no offence taken or given we all are in love with the same thing, only some maybe in different ways. Barry

No offense taken, Barry. I still think you're A-#1 - just a bit misguided....
