Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Lost at sea From: GUEST,Brian Date: 06 Sep 05 - 07:01 AM I believe it was written by Keith Hancock and released by the Wilsons in about 1985 as the 'other side' of a vynal single for 'Folk Against Famine'. I have a copy at home somewhere, and may be able to help further if I can find it, or if somebody doesn't get there first. I hope this helps. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Lost at sea From: Snuffy Date: 06 Sep 05 - 08:47 AM Denn, looking at the snippet you provided, I would have thought "All at sea" rather more likely than "Lost at sea" to describe the Thatcher years! The only "Lost at sea" that I know is by Anne Matthews (now Anne Reader) on her 2002 Stolen Kisses album. The chorus goes: "Lost at sea. Lost at sea." I seem to hear them say. Don't let the message be for me, For my love is at sea and away. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Lost at sea From: GUEST,Brian Date: 06 Sep 05 - 09:34 AM The title provided by Denn is correct, and digging around in my befuddled old memory bank, I am sure my earlier post was correct too. I know I have a copy of it, and will check this evening when I get home. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Lost at sea From: Dennis the Elder Date: 06 Sep 05 - 12:26 PM Brian Sounds good, think you have hit the nail on the head. I like Snuffy's theory about "All at Sea" and Margaret Thatcher, being from the Yorkshire coalfield area, it has a lot of credence, thanks also to Snuffy. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Lost at sea From: GUEST,Brian Date: 07 Sep 05 - 06:27 AM Denn, I found the recordings last night, but ran out of time so will post the words for you tomorrow. The info I gave you yesterday was in the right direction, but not entirely correct (the memory ain't what it used to be). The correct info is as follows. The Wilsons vynal single recording for 'Folk Against Famine' was done in 1986. The songs on it were 'Third World War' written by Keith Hancock (I correctly remembered he was involved with the project) and 'Lost At Sea' written by Clive Gregson - My apologies to Keith and Clive for wrongly crediting 'Lost At Sea' yesterday. The Wilsons also released a 'live CD in 1997, 'Stocking Tops' which also has a recording of 'Lost At Sea' on it. I'd forgotten what a good song it is, thanks for bringing it back to my attention. Words to follow, tomorrow. cheers Brian |

Subject: Lyr Add: LOST AT SEA (Clive Gregson) From: le cheffie Date: 07 Sep 05 - 08:04 AM Try this one: LOST AT SEA Words by Clive Gregson We live in a mean world where nothing comes cheap. We fight and we steal to become top of the heap, Where money is king and chaos is queen, And we're all in the same boat lost at sea. The rent's always due as the money runs out. When the landlord comes looking, we're never about. Now we're just as honest as poor folk can be, But we're on the bread line lost at sea. How can you borrow when no one will lend? What can you buy with nothing to spend? When living is hard but trouble comes free, We're all on the front line lost at sea. With time on your hands, the days always drag. The highway to heaven's through a polythene bag. While the pimps and the pushers are out on the street, We're all in danger lost at sea. We swim in an ocean of petrol and blood. We spin round in circles. We sink in the mud. We drink to forget. We break down and weep, But we're in the same boat lost at sea. Yes, we're in the same boat lost at sea. Hope this helps Nick Typos corrected. --JoeClone, 10-Sep-05. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Lost at Sea (from The Wilson Family) From: Jim Dixon Date: 10 Sep 05 - 08:24 PM This Rhino discography says that the CD version of "Mischief" by Clive Gregson and Christine Collister (originally issued as an LP in 1988) contains LOST AT SEA as a bonus track. Apparently the 1987 LP issued by Topic in the UK contained LOST AT SEA. |
