Subject: RE: Tech: Is http://www.folkinfo.org/ Gone? From: GUEST,Jon Date: 01 Oct 05 - 10:08 AM Sorry, I did post here a couple of week back. My ISP, 38h, disappeared of the face of the earth leaving me with a number of problems. I decided at that time to undertake a rewrite of the forum into another language. That is still WIP as is my trying to resolve a few other issues. It's taking me longer than anticipated but I'm hopig we will be back this month (October) and with a set up that will be more flexible should another ISP do something strange on us, If you want to see my progress on the rewrite - it is here. Forturnately nothing was lost with my ISPs sudden vanishing act. |

Subject: RE: Tech: Is http://www.folkinfo.org/ Gone? From: GUEST,Jon Date: 01 Oct 05 - 10:14 AM It's not really server problems with this one nutty although I have had a few with the new Annexe site which to date has not been as reliable as I would like for database connections (which translated means just about every script I have won't work if this problem occurs although a plain .html page would still run fast). That type of thing (which I'm pretty sure Rsd Fox will resolve in time) again counts towards some of my reasoning in attempting to make some of the changes I am do. And it isn't a small task - somewhere here lately, I commented on rewirting MC from Coldfusion into something else. Much of this is along those lines and is by no means a small undertaking. |

Subject: RE: Tech: Is http://www.folkinfo.org/ Gone? From: GUEST,Jon Date: 14 Nov 05 - 08:52 PM Just an update. I've had a good run at long last. I think I will be ready for testing with others (if interested) by the week end. There are a few niggles but really I've only got the personal pages on the forum and a few bits song database to try to convert and I think it will be time to see how it goes - although the forum should take posts - before cleaning the database. The main forum seems OK and the song database including the abc conversions is working. I've moved the site now to http://home.folkinfo.org/forum but when I'm back properly, www. will work although it will probably be the same machine - not a backdoor. |

Subject: RE: Tech: Is http://www.folkinfo.org/ Gone? From: Leadfingers Date: 15 Nov 05 - 07:30 AM Checked your link Jon - I can access it all at the moment ! IF you need any test posts , just yell ! |

Subject: RE: Tech: Is http://www.folkinfo.org/ Gone? From: GUEST,Jon Date: 15 Nov 05 - 07:47 AM Thanks. It's not all there yet. I've got the PM system to do - working on send PM at the moment and I think that's about it for the forum. The pm system is one of the longer tasks though especially as I'm trying to remember how it works... Song database, I've got the add/update songs to do and a few other bits but I don't think there is anything that will take long there. There is also the abcprojects but I'll start asking for test posts before I get started on that. |

Subject: RE: Tech: Is http://www.folkinfo.org/ Gone? From: GUEST,Jon Date: 16 Nov 05 - 07:32 PM If anyone is interested, I'd appreciate a few test posts/ trying bits out at folkinfo. I think I've ironed any major problems out but would like to know what others find before I look towards re-opening on the new system. |

Subject: RE: Tech: Is http://www.folkinfo.org/ Gone? From: GUEST,Jon Date: 17 Nov 05 - 07:39 PM Not quite GEST. I've a few things to do yet. The way it is looking at the moment with no major problems found, I expect to be running properly no later than Sunday. I might (not promising) even opt to do the jobs tommorrow. |

Subject: RE: Tech: Is http://www.folkinfo.org/ Gone? From: GUEST,Jon Date: 18 Nov 05 - 06:21 AM OK thanks all. As no-one has found anything horrifying, the site is going down now for a few hours while I prepare for running "properly". With luck, folkinfo will be back in operation sometime this afternoon. |

Subject: RE: Tech: Is http://www.folkinfo.org/ Gone? From: GUEST,Jon Date: 18 Nov 05 - 11:23 AM OK I've restored the database now and started up. home.folkinfo.org is working. www.folkinfo.org is also ready but it might take a day or two for DNS to catch up before it works for everyone. It should redirect to home in the meanwhile. |
