Subject: Lyr Add: I RAISED MY HAT (Pola, Steininger) From: Jim Dixon Date: 20 Nov 05 - 07:58 PM I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss a request like this. Here's the catalog entry from The Indiana University Sheet Music Collections:
Composer: Steininger, Franz Name: Pola, Eddie, 1907- Role: Lyricist Publisher: The Lawrence Wright Music Co. Place of publication: London Date of publication: 1932 Call Number: M1 .D48 Box: 050 Item: 073 Performance Medium: Piano, Voice and Chords First Line: It was a lovely summer ev'ning, and I was feeling gay Chorus First Line: The sky was full of moon, the moon was full of smiles Subject term: Popular song Subject term: Lombardo, Guy However, I've found that it's on 3 recent CDs, listed at allmusic.com: Guy Lombardo & His Royal Canadians, "Sweetest Music This Side of Heaven" Adrian Rollini & His Orchestra, "Complete Brunswick, Parlophone and Vocalion Bunny Berigan Sessions" Adrian Rollini & His Orchestra, "Key Sessions 1931-1937" You can also hear it at The Red Hot Jazz Archive. Here's my transcription: The sky was full of moon. The moon was full of smiles, And I was full of joy and ecstasy. So I raised my hat. She raised her eyes. It was easy as A B C. The trees were full of birds. The birds were full of song. The song kept saying, "Kiss her tenderly." So I raised my arms. She raised her lips. And now she belongs to me. I said, "Would you like to cuddle? Would you like a little bit of love?" She said, "Course I'd like to cuddle. What do you think that I'm made of?" And now we've got a house. The house is full of rooms. Of course you know we've got a nursery. 'Cause I raised my hat. She raised her eyes. Now we're raising a family. [Note that the sheet music includes at least one verse that is not in the recording, which is not uncommon.] |
