Subject: Hootenanny Hoot on TCM 11/18/05 From: GUEST Date: 18 Nov 05 - 06:17 PM Hootenanny Hoot will be shown on Turner Classic Movies at 11:15 Central tonight. The 1963 film features performances by The Brothers Four, Sheb Wooley, Johnny Cash, The Gateway Trio, Judy Henske, George Hamilton IV, Cathie Taylor, Chris Crosby, Joe & Eddie, Mark Dinning, . . . If I remember rightly, the story doesn't get in the way of the music much. Preceding HH on TCM are "biopics" Your Cheatin' Heart and Coal Miner's Daughter, starting at 7PM if you are interested. Subject: RE: Hootenanny Hoot on TCM 11/18/05 From: John on the Sunset Coast Date: 19 Nov 05 - 05:43 PM LadyJean - Many did it that way way back when. Even The Weavers dressed up. Peter, Paul and Mary, The Limeliters, The Gateway Singers all were spiffy dressers. Of course, not all did; some wore bulky Irish woolen sweaters, or Calypso-type outfits. Even major comics of the era wore coat and tie, or dinnerwear...Shelley Berman, Dick Newhart, Dick Gregory, Richard Pryor and George Carlin (yes, that Richard and that George!). Mort Sahl dressed down, a cardigan sweater. Men still wore coats and ties to baseball games then. I guess that today it does seem a bit odd at that. |

Subject: RE: Hootenanny Hoot on TCM 11/18/05 From: LadyJean Date: 19 Nov 05 - 09:37 PM When we went on family vactions, I wore a traveling dress, a black and white checked cotton dress, with a full skirt and an itchy tull petticoat underneath. As I remember Dad drove us to Delaware in a suit, tie included. I remember those days well. It just looked a little odd. Women singers with teased and sprayed hair looked a bit odd too. I know almost everybody wore their hair like that back then. But it looked odd with with "Little Omie Wise". |
