Subject: Air Guitar - for real! From: The Fooles Troupe Date: 01 Dec 05 - 06:58 AM For all those air guitar players out there (I assume rockers only), there is now a new gadget that will allow to actually hear the sounds you are fantasising. Using computing technology, a camera looks at what your hands are doing (Oi! stop that!) and translates it into the appropriate guitar sounds. It can establish what the chord changes are (so they say - I'm bloody sure even many brilliant guitarists couldn't do that!) by the direction and amount you move your left hand! And of course it can easily tell what you are strumming by how you move your right hand. Sounds OK for rhythm, but not too sure about those lead solos... I'm not making this up guys... Hey, does this mean I can be a Rockstar and won't have to learn how to play the guitar properly now? Robin |

Subject: RE: Air Guitar - for real! From: Dead Horse Date: 02 Dec 05 - 09:57 AM Well thats screwed me up! I sometimes play only the air button on my accordion for a laugh, as I pretend to be "sitting in" on a jam. That darn machine will put pay to that then, huh? |

Subject: RE: Air Guitar - for real! From: Duke Date: 02 Dec 05 - 01:49 PM I saw the inventor on tv. Some guy from Finland, I believe. He is taking it one step further so that you can play in the style of your favourite guitar player. For a price, of course! |

Subject: RE: Air Guitar - for real! From: GUEST Date: 02 Dec 05 - 02:39 PM It would be really "interesting" to see/hear this system in action. I've my doubts... Something kinda-similar-but-not-really is the Laser Harp. Glenn Hill from Mountain Glenn Harps is one person who's made them. Perhaps others have as well (basically break the light beam with your finger to trigger a MIDI command or tone generator). Needless to say, the laser harp is not aimed at the same consumer market as the Air Guitar thingie. |
