Subject: RE: skarpi Iceland , help wanted. From: okscout@cwix.com Date: 07 Mar 99 - 10:54 AM Play and sing it again and again. Try to make the story of the lyrics reflect something in your own life. Some songs of course just stick to us like glue and others won't stick around at all. |

Subject: RE: skarpi Iceland , help wanted. From: katlaughing Date: 07 Mar 99 - 11:30 AM Make a recording of it and sing along with it every chance you get. It's a quick and easy way to have the lyrics with you wherever you go, in the car, while walking...just pop it in a Walkman and sing away. Even play it while you are going to sleep. katlaughing |

Subject: RE: skarpi Iceland , help wanted. From: Cap't Bob Date: 07 Mar 99 - 11:40 AM This is what seems to work for me: I only attempt to learn one verse at a time (it works best if I learn it from the written form). After I've mastered the first verse I go on to the second, however, every time I go over the second verse I repeat the first verse. This process is repeated, going over all previously learned verses, until I get to the end of the song and by that time the song is pretty well memorized. It's best to sing the song many times over the next several weeks. It's also a good idea to put together a song list and review all of the songs periodically. |

Subject: RE: skarpi Iceland , help wanted. From: Date: 07 Mar 99 - 12:55 PM skarpi, As you can tell from the previous posts, repetition is part of the memorization process. Some of us are best at learning things by hearing them, some are better are learning by seeing things, and some just have to get involved in doing things. If you think about what techniques have helped you learn information in the past, you can apply that to songs. I am a visual/tactile learner. It helps me to write out the lyrics a few times. That gives me my visual cues. Then I practice the song with the written or typed pages in front of me. As I begin to feel I am learning it, I move away from the paper and only occasionally refer back to it. Finally, with enough repetition, I will have memorized it. A few months back, we had a discussion about how Mudcatters learn new tunes, click here for that information which I found by typing in "shower" in the forum search. You'll understand why if you read the thread. Roger in Baltimore |

Subject: RE: skarpi Iceland , help wanted. From: Liam's Brother Date: 07 Mar 99 - 10:09 PM Skarpi min! Writing it out helps. As previously mentioned, it's good to learn 1 verse at a time because it keeps you, for example, from confusing lines from verse 4 with lines in verse 5.
