It would take a Constitutional amendment to eliminate the electoral college.

Not impossible, but the process takes some years. It would be more likely to pass, however, than any Constitutional tweaks to the Second Amendment.

I was surprised to learn that the United States is now the only democracy to retain an electoral college.
