There are two rivers in South Carolina called Pee Dee, the Big one and the Little one. They converge and enter the ocean at Winyah Bay by Georgetown, SC. Incidentally, Stephen Foster's "Way Down Upon the Swannee River" was also originally about the Pee Dee. Most of our rivers have their names that they had when Europeans came, and they generally end in "...ee"; Congaree, Yemassee, Wateree, Jocassee, etc. |
