I've been wandering early and late, New York City to the Golden Gate, And it looks like I'm never gonna cease my wandering. I though it would be easy to track down this song, but it hasn't been. James Taylor is a common source, Sammy Kaye is mentioned in a 1997 thread here, can't find the song in the Digitrad. It's in Sandburg's American Songbag, where he says he collected it from one Arthur Sutherland of Rochester, NY, who learned it from someone on the American Relief Expedition to the Near East. So that gets it back to the 1920's. Anyone know more?
