Colin Randall Who's the 'Best' folk singer you know? (242* d) RE: Who's the 'Best' folk singer you know? 11 Nov 08

Amusing to see that it took some spam to kickstart the thread....

Just spent an enjoyable 20-30 mins going through postings, from '99 until the viagra people intruded

One of the things about long Mudcat threads is that there are sometimes two or three different conversations going on - Brits ignoring North America, Americans & Canadians ignoring anything east of Nova Scotia and those - from both sides of the Atlantic - who conscientiously adopt 'hands across the ocean' principles

I will try to be inclusive - and yes, these are just preferences since no one will ever prove 'best' -

Sandy Denny, Joan Baez, Eliza Carthy, Buffy St(e) Marie, Kate Rusby, Mary Black, June Tabor, early Judy Collins, Maddy Prior, Eileen Pratt - and other I cannot think of just now. Pressed for one? Sandy Denny
Luke Kelly, Nic Jones, early Bob Dylan, Bob Fox, Pete Seeger, Christy Moore, James Keelaghan, Ewan MacColl, Woody Guthrie - again, and others. Pressed for one: Luke Kelly
Among bands: Dervish, Touchstone, Watersons, Bellowhead, De Dannan, High Level Ranters, Altan, Albion Band/Fairport/Steeleye/Pentangle, Cherish the Ladies
And like everyone else, I've forgotten dozens

Colin

Salut! Live
