There's some great wit, and even laugh out loud humour, in a few of Leon Rossleson's songs. The Neighbour's Cat and I Didn't Mean It (if those are the correct titles) spring to mind. From the last century, the pitman poet Tommy Armstrong's song "Wor Nanny's a Mazer" is very funny, and probably not too deep in North eastern dialect to deter outsiders. The Durham coalfield also inspired a lot of clever, funny material in the late 60s and 70s by Johnny Handle, the Northern Front and one or two others - often applying "pitmatic" language to biblical tales.
