You're not a folksinger unless ... ... you've been inspired to sing by other great folksingers. The mention of Joan Baez and the Joan Baez Songbook above reminded me how much I owe to her, and the book, which introduced me to Child ballads and traditional songs as well as protest songs and newer styles of folk. Think I'd also add: ... you've had the chance to explore your own regional repertoire, songs new or old that relate to or come from your own part of the country. I love the sense of place some folk songs evoke, offering a way to celebrate your home and/or special place.
