The Catholic church can always escape outright condemnation because it can always cite specific issues. And of course because it's very rich in money and lawyers. A hypothetical Really Nasty Islamic Bearded Darkskinned Foreign Religion, which has no possible comparison to Us, kills people for disagreeing with them unjustly, whereas the Catholic Church (which I was taught does not change, unlike the secular world) kiiled* people it did not like totally justly- indeed even for their own good. * Actually the Catholic Church never executed anybody. Good Lord no. It was just that certain of the Churchmen, being totally filled with compassion for the errors of some dissident, recommended to the secular powers that they should be tied to a post and set on fire for their own good.
