Another feature of the heaviest elements is that they do not occur naturally. They have been synthesised by firing things like neutrons into lighter elements and on some occasions the lighter element takes n the neutrons, chucks out an electron (I think) and so increases the number of protons in the nucleus and so becomes a new heavier element. They are very unstable and promptly fall apart. Sometimes their existence can only be known from the bits left over. All good fun hey. Some of the above 'science' may need editing.
