The governor and the legislature couldn't agree on a budget by the end of the fiscal year (midnight last night) and the governor shut down the government. Only "essential" personnel are working until further notice. State police, corrections, warden service, fire marshal's office, psychiatric hospitals, and state parks. We're only essential in parks because it's the middle of summer, a holiday weekend, and public opinion, and we're running the parks with far too few people.
