Re: “a dog of the Redbone people” – mg ??
Redbone - a type of hunting dog; used to hunt raccoon, deer, boar, cougar, or other large game. Redbone Coonhound dogs originated in the Southern United States, and derive from foxhounds brought by immigrants from Scotland.

Also, a coon hunting friend of mine clarified the first two words; he believes they are: “Fogeye” [a southern slang term for raccoons, how their eyes shine in trees at night] and
“piefoot” [more slang describing the shape of raccoon hind feet tracks].
Interesting points to consider. Loved your “flat-footin’ fifty” explanation. I have heard “flat-footing’ it” often refer to running, so adding “50” makes sense . . . runnin’ FAST!
