"This apparent lack of progress in fuel economy has always puzzled me." Perhaps it’s down to the increase in engine power, Steve? I’ve found various figures for 1.0L ecoboost engines but I think we could say at least 100bhp vs about 39bhp for a 997cc Anglia engine. Maybe Fiesta similarly powerful (and performance, say 11s 0-60mph vs 27s) to the Anglia would have far better fuel consumption but I’m not sure there would be a market for it.
