Wow what a trip reading all these posts. I'm 76 and my mother used to recite this to me more as a poem singing a little melody in the last line..."tying apples on the lilac tree". I am recording some songs on a Tonie box for my great grandchildren and this popped into my head last night. Took me a few minutes to piece all the words together. I wanted to be sure I'd remembered it all so decided to look it up and here you all are! My mom and I both were born in Los Angeles, CA. I'm still here in Northern CA. How fun...wishing everyone well! Gratefully, Pam
