Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Ships in Full Sail (Spirit of the Wes From: GUEST,Mich Date: 20 Apr 07 - 12:50 AM Well I was sitting by the shore watching merchant seamen leave the safety of the harbor for the open ???(reaches?) sea and I reckoned that their life was a ruthless one and lonely and I contemplated only it was here I'd rather be so I rose and turned my back upon the sea and then the metaphor took shape in my mind a few days later that the harbor was my history and the sea a chance to change the horizon beckoned me so I ??? in that direction I began to realize it might be within my range now I'm out here swimmin' in the waves of change now that horizon didn't seem to be gettin' any closer and it made me start to wonder if it all might be in vain then I began to understand horizons don't get closer only you extend them further every time you make some gains so I'll keep on swimmin' in the waves of change, etc - or something like that. I haven't been able to find anything either. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Spirit of the West From: stallion Date: 22 Mar 07 - 12:48 PM Nick, the song "The Crawl" which we do was "hoisted" from a a SOTW album I think they should be more well known than they are, Steve T. has toured with them and says they are a really great bunch. ohhh a bit of thread but what the hell! |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Spirit of the West From: GUEST Date: 21 Mar 07 - 07:11 PM Thanks Q but those aren't the lyrics to the SOTW version unfortunately. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Spirit of the West From: GUEST,Nick Date: 21 Mar 07 - 06:09 PM I have never heard Spirit of the west, but I have heard of them. Back in the NAPSTER days someone mislabled one of their songs "Home for a Rest" as being recorded by Great Big Sea. Sure enough five times a year or so, people go to the GREAT BIG SEA web site asking where they can get the song and what album it is from. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Spirit of the West From: GUEST,DaveT Date: 21 Mar 07 - 05:47 PM Thanks Peace but I think they are the traditional lyrics to the jig 'Ships in Full Sail' rather than the poem. Good try though :) Geoff: that sounds like the best idea. I'll pass the details to John Mann's site on. Thanks for the quick response guys. Great site this! |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Spirit of the West From: Peace Date: 21 Mar 07 - 05:03 PM Or is it? Note, it was posted by GEST, but I couldn't find it in the DT. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Spirit of the West From: Geoff the Duck Date: 21 Mar 07 - 04:01 PM Have you tried the direct approach via the Spirit of the West website, or John Mann's own site? Lyrics are not on the site, but you could ask nicely. http://www.mistermann.ca/music.html http://www.sotw.ca/ Quack! GtD. |
Subject: Lyr Req: Spirit of the West From: GUEST,DaveT Date: 21 Mar 07 - 03:02 PM A friend of mine is looking for the Lyrics to Ships in Full Sail, a track on their 'Old Material 84-86' album. The lyrics are from a poem from John Mann's father set to the jig 'Ships in Full Sail'. So not the actual, traditional lyrics to the Ships in Full Sail Jig itself. Thank You :0 |
