Subject: RE: Bob Zentz - C. Fox Smith Recording (Closehaule From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 17 Feb 08 - 11:57 PM Bob, I had a reply from Gary Mitchell who is willing to ship the albums I want (yours & one by John Golden) he just need to get price info from the Post Office. Why not keep an eye on the National Folk Festival's performer applications - we'd love to see you back again. The National - why not all Festivals? - you could aim for the Jan-April Festival circuit one year! sandra |

Subject: RE: Bob Zentz - C. Fox Smith Recording (Closehauled..) From: Charley Noble Date: 10 Jan 08 - 08:52 AM I've been enjoying listening to my new copy of "Close-Hauled on the Wind of a Dream" for the last few days. It really is a "sea chest" of songs which folks will treasure. "Sea Dream" remains my favorite but then there's all the other songs. As I've said above, my other personal favorites include The Blue Peter, Casey's Concertina, Ice: The Bosun's Story, The Tryphena's Extra Hand, Portsmouth Road, Ships That Pass, Racing Clippers, Bill's Christmases, Eight Bells, Leave Her Johnnie. The other are well worth a listen. I do enjoy the final track, "Frisco Bound," in which C. Fox Smith describes a bucko mate cussing out the hung-over crew as a tall ship prepares to make sail, finally pulling them together with a shanty. Lyn Lewis narrates as C. Fox Smith and Tom raises the dead as the shantyman! Great fun and I wish I could have been there when the scene was being produced. Zentz will be performing for the first time in years at the Mystic Sea Music Festival, the second weekend of June. He will also be conducting a workshop on C. Fox Smith and her nautical poetry. Subject: RE: Bob Zentz - C. Fox Smith Recording (Closehauled..) From: Charley Noble Date: 27 Dec 07 - 03:24 PM I've been trying to puzzle out what the final track might be, "Frisco Bound." It's not an actual poem title included in the Cicely Fox Anthology of 550 poems Jim Savile and myself have assembled. It could be a poem we overlooked but most likely is one of her poems retitled just to confound us. Here's a link to the CFS Anthology, where it resides on the Oldpoetry website: Click here for website! Cheerily, Charley Noble |
Subject: RE: Bob Zentz - C. Fox Smith Recording (Closehaule From: Anglo Date: 27 Dec 07 - 12:04 AM Gazza2: Given the state of the dollar against the pound, I'd say your best bet is to order directly from the States. Folk CDs generally go for around $15 here (about GBP 7.50, and airmail for one CD shouldn't be much more than $5. Bob's CDs are available HERE, and they take credit cards. You could also contact him directly and see if he will take PayPal - he may well not, as I don't see any indication that he does on his webpage - but it is the easiest way to transfer small amounts of money internationally. |

From: Charley Noble Date: 26 Dec 07 - 10:11 AM Gazza2- Maybe Zentz could work out a deal with Chantey Cabin in the UK; Ken and Jan Lardner have been great supporters of nautical music and would certainly be interested in this CD.
