Thanks one and all - it may be the Emily Smith one. Trouble is, I write an approximation of the title and a few words on a scruffy bit of paper which I find some months or years later - then I cant even remember how the song goes. Anyway, this one sounds good so I will try and learn it.

May not be relevant, but I thought some of you might find this of interest, recalling the days of 'sailing doon the water' on the Clyde. I remember seeing PS Caledonia racing PS Waverley on their return home to Glasgow on a Sunday evening in 1968, this was a regular occurence and was quite exciting! I also remember her in the 70's when she was moored as a floating 'gin palace' on the Thames which, for me, was very sad to see after her glorious, previous life.

I think Joe might be right in that there is a possibiity that you're maybe thinking about the vessel sailing to Caledonia rather than a vessel called Caledonia. Caledonia is one of the songs in "Ord's Bothy Songs And Ballads". Here is Emily Smith singing it. Does this sound like the song??

I wrote one, called "Roll, Caledonia," but since I never played outside of the USA, I doubt it is mine you recall hearing.

Hi - This thread (click) talks of a song about a vessel bound for Caledonia, but I didn't find any about a vessel named Caledonia.

2 or 3 years ago, I'm sure I heard a song about a ship called the Caledonia. (Not Dougie Mclean). Is this the fevered imagination of an old wrinkly or can someone point me in the right direction, please.
