yup - it effecs us windows users too! The most common is with apostrophe's and quotes - especially if "smart qoutes" are turned on in MS-Word.

Well, I did find the song in my computer files eventually.  Masato, there are some typos in the Spanish lyrics that you got from that website, and the verses are out of order.  The child says "My Father is in Heaven..." after the patroness asks him where he is from.  My lyrics also contained a typo.

In the lyrics below, I have put the corrected lyrics in boldface.

(I formatted these lyrics in MS Word and am cutting and pasting the HTML code from Netscape Composer's "Source View."  Please let me know if the tildes on "nino" and the acute accents on "frio," the second "e" in "despues," "que," and the "e" in "tambien," and the "e" in "baje" don't come out right.

Wow, Joe! I didn't realize my post was screwed up, because it looked fine in the preview and it still does on my Mac. Even the HTML code is the same as I've been told it would be on Windows, so I don't understand why it sometimes (not always) gets mutated when sent into cyperspace.

Actually, I DO very often type and format the song using MS Word first and then post it into the forum -- or I post it into Netscape Composer, correct any formatting problems, and then copy the HTML code from "Source View." This seems to work fine some of the time, but on some posts, for some folks' computers, it doesn't.

The tilde on my Mac can be done by first hitting the "alt/option" key and "n" keys simultaneously; then you type the "n" letter. It can, like all the other symbols, also be done using the "Insert Symbol" command in MS Word. The HTML code comes out the same, either way.

I have no idead why an apostrophe typed on a Mac should come out as something else when read by a Windows system! Does this happen for you Windows folks on all my posts?

As I've mentioned in other threads, I've tested my posts by viewing them on Windows computers, and sometimes they seem to come out just fine.

What is really strange is that my "finder" can't find any file in my computer whose title or content includes "El Santo," and I know I did not type that post from memory or from the sheet music I have. I must have copied it from some internet source, but I can't figure out where.

Please, folks, try to use standard American English characters as much as possible, especially in thread titles. If you're using a word processor to transcribe a song before posting, save the song as a text
files and open it with a simple text editor. It takes a lot of time to fix a message like Genie's, and it's a shame to have the song botched up like that. Actually, the tildes usually come out if you know how to do them, but the curly quote marks and apostrophes are really messy.
I take it the name of the song is "El Santo Niño" - the tilde comes out fine if done right (although some browsers may not read MY tilde, either).

Masato, isn't it "calienta," not "colienta?"

Like a number of other non-English songs (e.g., O Tannenbaum), there are probably many English "translations."
