Not to worry! Some other Friday (I am home now) when I am in Nottingham I will have to "do" Bingham or Gainsborough and drag beautiful daughter along.

The other odd thing about the Second Time Around in Beeston was that usually I am one of the oldest in a club (being 59 this year) but, no doubt because of the birthday party, I was one of the younger ones. I also had considerably more hair than any other man, and more than most of the women too!

I don't think anybody was playing a practical joke on you Richard. It all sounds a bit unfortunate.

Mudcat forum is one thing, but being nice to fellow mudcatters and wanting them to come and see us is tops.

I'm sure they are all excellent clubs - my aim was not to complain but to point out it was quite a successful practical joke on me!

Next time I should plan to make that long detour (maybe).

Bingham can be quite Country at times as well, Richard. Gainsborough wasn't!

Yes, thanks, soon after hearing that Pete Hicks had died I was able to do "The Old Man's gone", but then, having had the news, I went to assassinate some whisky, or I would have stayed till the end. Up to the point I left it had been 100% country apart from me (one song) one couple who played piano accordian and melodeon (two sets of tunes) and were not bad.

Second Time Around advertises itsself as a Folk Club and every time that I have been there I have had no reason to disagree. It welcomes all aspects of "folk" from heavy traditional to the lighter end of contemporary song (usually the type of thing advocated on this forum.) Reg Cooper, as Al has already stated, has been involved in the Nottingham folk and country scene for more years than I have lived down here and I was informed that performers from both codes would be on hand to entertain and share the celebrations.
Did you get a sing, Richard, and contribute to the night? Sorry that I was not there but there was a rather important event in Yeovil taking place at the same time.
Oddly enough last night I went to see Al Atkinson, a founder member of the traditional folk scene in Nottingham right at the begining of the revival, in Long Eaton and he gave us a night of Bob Dylan, Neil Young and Ry Cooder songs. Cracking session, greatly enjoyed by all.

Reg Cooper birthday party was that? Reg used to do the local BBC radio C and W programme for about a million years. there was bound to be a bit of country music on going down there.

Reg Coopers very popular. I think Beeston would probably be the best place for a sing - very traddy in booking policy too. so it would proably be better for you. I'll try and get along. it would be nice to meet you.

God, the old Star in Beeston - did I ever get drunk there when I was a student? I also got my head kicked in by some chavs outside it one night! Is that a sing and not a guest thingy?

I'm going to have sat in the Volvo all afternoon (from North Kent) so I think Gainsborough will have to be some other time, unless it is near teh M1 on the way to Nottingham so I could break my journey there and go on to Nottingham after my daughter's band practice later...

But I think it looks like Beeston or Bingham
