Hi Scooby! No-one can get to all of them, at least not in the same year anyway. It's hard enough to choose between all the ones that clash!! We get to quite a few I reckon - a quick count of this years diary shows 26 with 3 still to go before Christmas. Boy am I knackered.....

Everybody else to reminisce about how good the old ones were!

There's at lest 300 in England, probably more because there are many flourishing 'mini festivals', really singers weekends and probably as many again in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Even as a 'person of leisure' these days it would probably take me about 6 years to get to all the English ones, as some weekends there are 6 to choose from plus I would also need a big Lottery win - then I could organise 'singers festivals' whenever I wanted and also start up an Old Folkies Retirement Village!

"Old Folkies Retirement Village!"
Yay! count me in!

The fRoots web site has a pretty comprehensive list of festivals, if you want to know where and when they are. You have to decide what counts as folk, of course.

"Ruth there must be more than 300 in a year."

Erm, isn't that what I said?

I remember the exact figure being quoted by Mike Harding a couple of years ago, and being reiterated last year by Steve Heap at the Association of Festival Organisers conference. Though I can't recall the exact figure, I remember thinking at the time that Antigua claims to have 365 beaches - one for every day of the year - while England has a folk festival for every day of the year!

Nice one Carol. I was thinking about a folk village the other day. They have villages for golfers who want to live on a golf course. For what ever reason. So a bunch of cottages and some oldie woldie pubs selling 6x with great big roaring fires and folk clubs and a great big wall around it all to keep all the muggles out. Great.

In the mid 80s Kate & I used To do 35! That often meant doing 2 in a single weekend!
We did this to publicise our own festival.
