WICHITA- Authorites are considering chargesin the bizarre case of a woman who sat on her boyfrined's toilet for two years- so long that her body was wtusck to the seat by the time the boyfriend finally called the police.

Hess County Sheriff Bryan Whipple said it appeared the 35 year old Ness City woman's skin had grown around the seat She initially refused emergency treatment services but was finally convinced by responders and her boyfiend that she needed to be checked out at a hospital.

"We pried the toilet seat off with a pry bar, and the seat went with her to the hospital," Whipple said. "The hospital removed it."

Whipple said investigators planned to present their report Wednesday to the county attorney, who will determine whether charges should be files againmst the woman's 36 year old boyfriend. Neither person was named.

The boyfriend, who never explained why it took two years to call, told investigators he brought his girlfriend food and water and asked her every day to come out of the bathroom. "And her reply would be 'Maybe tomorrow'", Whipple said.

Where he went pee is easily solved...there are other drains in the house (sinks, shower, etc) but where did he....poop?

This story doesn't make sense to me...was she held against her will on the toilet? Does she need WAAAAY more fiber in her diet? I don't unnerstand...

I'm of the opinion both parties are in urgent need of assessment for mental competence.

Reminds me of a situation I knew of where a couple of borderline mentally disabled people became progressively dirtier and smellier over the course of several weeks, after having been pretty clean for along time previously. Turned out:

Their washer broke down.
She tried to wash clothes in the bathtub, but got frustrated and left them there.
They ran out of clean clothes, and couldn't bathe because the tub was full of smelly wet clothes and water.
Neither of them could figure out what to do, and they were afraid to ask for advice for various reasons.

I got on the outside of a few beers one night--OK, maybe a few cases. I fell asleep on the toilet. I awoke about four hours later. My friggin' legs had gone to sleep. Honest, ya coulda cut off one of my feet with a rusty saw and it wouldn't have hurt. I find this story just a bit difficult to believe (I too read it a few days back). The woman's blood circulation would have stopped and she'd have developed gangrene a damn sight sooner than two years. I think the story is BS.

I read this story too. Apparently there was a certain amount of mental ability lacking in both folks. She didn't get off the toilet because she didn't want to.

Apart from the questions mentioned above, did she ever flush the toilet? That would have washed part of her. Or did she have 2 years worth of accumulated.......stuff.....floating around underneath?

And if, as the story has it, they were boyfriend and girlfriend, what about nooky? Usually that takes place in a relationship?

Sounds like a very severe case of agroaphobia or something similar, a trailer home toilet would presumably be 'the smallest room' and possibly a 'safe' place for someone with a mental illness of that sort.
The report doesn't actually say she spent the whole two years there but obviously devloped pressure sores from immobility.

Such conditions are difficult to understand and cope with; I hope no one suffers more than they already have but receives appropiate treatment.

----She was in fair condition at a hospital in Wichita. Whipple said she has refused to cooperate with hospital employees or law enforcement personnel. Authorities said they did not know if she was physically or mentally disabled.

I ran this on News of Note a few days ago, and one account I read was pretty thorough. The mobile home had two bathrooms. She didn't literally sit on the toilet for two years, apparently, she moved around in the room and wouldn't come out. Apparently within the last month or so (still way too long!) she developed some ulcerated sores on her legs and by continuing to sit on the pot the wounds somehow stuck to the seat.

These two appear to be very low-functioning adults. Instead of filing charges (even if he can hold down a job, what kind of job and what kind of judgement is called for?) I think some evaluation and therapy might be useful.

Same way I felt, Art. I tried to see the humor, and just couldn't find it. One wonders how someone could be so alone in the world, like both of these folks, that no one stepped in. I am hoping this all turns out to be overblown, but sadly it probably won't be.

How did we get to this place? In the neighborhood I grew up in, this simply could not have happened. Someone would have intervened. But we have gotten to a place where we don't even know who lives next door. It is just sad.

As to Spawzer's humor, it needs no defending. He said it all in his post. Love ya, buddy.

It's a very sad case. I know it has caused some of us to chuckle, but we aren't poking fun at the poor woman or her boyfriend, just the situation. And there is disbelief too; I'm sure everyone here would like to think that their mate would be able to get them help is they so obviously needed it.

Let's hope they both get the help and care they need.

Woman files lawsuit against AMR because passenger next to her masturbated while she slept

A 21-year-old Harris County woman filed a $200,000 lawsuit against American Airlines alleging employees on a flight to Los Angeles from Dallas/Fort Worth Airport failed to protect her while she slept from another passenger who masturbated to her and ejaculated in her hair, according to a lawsuit she filed last week in Tarrant County.

The Harris County woman alleges employees knew of the risks associated with failing to "police the passengers to ensure that passengers do not hurt one another," the suit states.

Airline officials did not return calls seeking comment. In a statement to a Houston television station last year, a spokesman said the company regretted the incident, but the flight crew took appropriate action.

The woman and her lawyer could not be reached for comment. The Star-Telegram does not identify victims of sexual crimes.

Destined for a Spring Break visit with family and friends March 19, the woman flew from Houston to DFW Airport and had settled into her seat for the last leg of flight 2074 to Los Angeles about 11 p.m., the suit states. The woman slept most of the flight, but awoke about 20 minutes before landing when the pilot announced the plane was on decent into Los Angeles. When the woman opened her eyes, she saw that an unknown man had moved into the seat next to her and was staring at her as he masturbated, the suit states.

The woman turned toward the window in embarrassment and in an act of nervousness began to run her fingers through her hair where she noticed "a substantial amount of an extremely sticky substance in her hair," the suit states.

The woman began to cry and tried to get the attention of a flight attendant, but was unsuccessful, the suit states. Finally a passenger in the row in front of the woman comforted her and verified the semen in her hair, the suit states.

When the plane landed, employee called airport police and the man was arrested.

The suit alleges that the during the investigation, American Airlines employees told police they witnessed the man move from his assigned seat into the row where the woman was sleeping.

The woman is seeking punitive damages and a jury trial.

Finding the humor in the ludicrousness of our/my own situation now has been a godsend! Extending and extrapolating that self preservationist use of humor to the absurdity of the inhumanity around this whole world is a survival technique that I heartily endorse and will continue to use. If that is a failure of mine, so be it. Also, if it is a way for Susan to find a way to feel superior, so be it. There is still actual humor in the article I read. The sadness, and the many questions lurk there and loudly scream between the lines. Ironically, because every coin has two sides, taking note of the actual humor of it is not a no-no.

Body of woman, 90, found on toilet in inhabited Wis. home

MADISON, Wis. - Two children and their mother lived for about two months with the decaying body of a 90-year-old woman on the toilet of their home's only bathroom, on the advice of a religious "superior" who claimed the corpse would come back to life, authorities said Friday.

The children - a 15-year-old girl and a 12-year-old boy - cried hysterically Wednesday after a deputy who came to their Necedah home looking for Magdeline Alvina Middlesworth ordered them out because of the stench from her body.

The children were in foster care Friday. Their mother, Tammy Lewis, and self-described "bishop" Alan Bushey remained in custody on felony counts of being a party to causing mental harm to a child.

"It's a sad case, and we'll continue to investigate it and try to ascertain just what occurred up there," Juneau County Sheriff Brent Oleson said. He said he had no further information on Bushey's religious affiliation.

According to the criminal complaint, Middlesworth's sister called sheriff's officials Wednesday and asked them to go to the home about 80 miles north of Madison to check on the woman, who had not been heard from for some time.

When Deputy Leigh Neville-Neil arrived at the house, she encountered Lewis, also known as Sister Mary Bernadett, the complaint said. Lewis, 35, initially refused to allow the deputy to check on Middlesworth, telling her that Middlesworth was on vacation and saying she had to check with her "superior" first.

But she eventually let the deputy in. The house smelled of incense and burned wood, and had religious materials everywhere and hymns playing on the stereo, according to the complaint.

When the deputy opened the last closed door, she smelled "decaying matter" and noticed something piled on what appeared to be a toilet. Lewis told her it was Middlesworth's body, the complaint said.

Lewis told the deputy that Middlesworth had died about two months earlier, but that God told her Middlesworth would come to life if she prayed hard enough.

She said she couldn't say anything more until she spoke with her "superior" - Bushey, 57, also known as Bishop John Peter Bushey.

When Bushey (pronounced "boo-SHAY") arrived, Lewis told the deputy that Middlesworth had appeared to pass out as Lewis helped her into her underwear.

She said she propped Middlesworth on the toilet and left the room to call Bushey, who told her to leave the woman alone and pray for her, the complaint said. He said he had received signs that God would raise her from the dead with a miracle.

Lewis went on to say she thought Middlesworth was still breathing when she put her on the toilet and called Bushey, instead of an ambulance. She later told a detective she put the woman on the toilet on March 4.

An autopsy has been performed, but results won't be available for some time, Oleson said.

"At this time we don't know what the cause of death was," he said. "Quite frankly, it might have been natural causes."

He described the one-story home in the town of Necedah as in decent repair, although the residents had been using "makeshift" toilet facilities because of the situation in the one bathroom.

The boy at the house told a detective he had considered running away because he was uncomfortable with the situation. He said Bushey told him that demons were trying to make it look as if Middlesworth wouldn't come back to life, and that if she were to be discovered he and the girl would have to go to public school and get jobs because Middlesworth paid the bills.

The boy referred to Middlesworth as "grandmother," the complaint said.

Oleson said Middlesworth was unrelated to Bushey.

"She believed in the same faith as self-proclaimed Bishop Bushey, and that was the connection there," he said.

Oleson said that Middlesworth and Lewis lived at the residence with the children since fall of 2004, and that Bushey lived elsewhere.

Bushey and Lewis are scheduled to make an initial court appearance May 19. Aside from the felony counts, Lewis also was charged with obstructing an officer, a misdemeanor.

The sheriff said cash bond was set Friday at $50,000 each, but Lewis was allowed to post 10 percent for her release.

Computerized state court records had no attorney listed for either suspect on Friday.
