Subject: Lyr Req: A Town Could Accuse From: Beer Date: 25 Aug 09 - 08:44 PM Spoke to a friend earlier this evening and while we were talking about music I asked what inspired him to start playing. He said that he heard a song in a bar and it struck him that he would like to learn to play that particular song. I must admit that even though I was a country music lover years ago, this tune I cannot remember. Any help would be appreciated. Beer (adrien) |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: A Town Could Accuse From: SINSULL Date: 25 Aug 09 - 09:09 PM Be Careful Of Stones That You Throw - Luke the Drifter (Hank Williams) A town can accuse Can carry bad news The seeds of distrust it will sow Unless you made no mistakes in your life Be careful of stones that you throw Recitation I forget the beginning but "That girl down the street is painted and hard She drinks and she swears quite a lot. She knows not to talk to my child and me." My neighbor just smiled and I thought CHORUS A car speeding by And the screeching of breaks A sound to make your blood chill My neighbor's one child Was pulled from the path And saved by a girl lying still The young child was safe and my neighbor cried out "Oh who was that brave girl so sweeet" I covered the crushed broken body and said "The bad girl who lives down the street." |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: A Town Could Accuse From: Peace Date: 25 Aug 09 - 11:58 PM Same song, SINS. The first line is "A tongue can accuse". GOOGLE either Porter Wagoner - Be Careful Of Stones That You Throw Lyrics or The Staple Singers - Be Careful of Stones That You Throw Track ... I would have hot-linked but it was giving me problems. Anyway, you have one heckuva memory. ma'am. |
Subject: Lyr Add: BE CAREFUL OF STONES THAT YOU THROW From: Jim Dixon Date: 27 Aug 09 - 10:32 AM BE CAREFUL OF STONES THAT YOU THROW Written by Bonnie Dodd Recorded by Hank Williams CHORUS: A tongue can accuse and carry bad news. The seeds of distrust it will sow, But unless you've made no mistakes in your life, Be careful of stones that you throw. SPOKEN: A neighbor was passing my garden one time. She stopped and I knew right away That it was gossip, not flowers, she had on her mind, And this is what I heard my neighbor say: "That girl down the street should be run from our midst. She drinks and she talks quite a lot. She knows not to speak to my child or to me." My neighbor then smiled and I thought: CHORUS SPOKEN: A car speeding by and the screaming of brakes— A sound that made my blood chill, For my neighbor's one child was pulled from the path And saved by a girl lying still. The child was unhurt and my neighbor cried out: "Oh, who was that brave girl so sweet?" I covered the crushed broken body and said: "The bad girl who lived down the street." CHORUS [Recorded by many people, including Little Jimmy Dickins, Dion & the Belmonts, Waylon Jennings, Johnny O'Keefe, Preacher Jack, Red Sovine, The Staple Singers, Porter Wagoner, Hank Williams, and Hank Williams Jr.] |
