Subject: BS: Book from my past found From: Nigel Paterson Date: 10 Apr 10 - 05:23 AM I started a thread recently in BS entitled: 'Dangers from radio waves'. An interesting 'secondary gain' has resulted. Because of Mudcat's Amazon link, the search engine picked up my name & lead me to a copy of a book I wrote back in 1977. I wrote a dozen or so books of music arranged for the guitar in the 70s & early 80s, published by Chappell & IMP (all now out of print) but did not retain copies of all of them. Happily, the book found on Amazon was one I did not have, so purchase it I did! Thanks Mudcat, you really brightened up my weekend! Nigel P. |

Subject: RE: BS: Book from my past found From: Jim Dixon Date: 10 Apr 10 - 09:10 AM You say: "Because of Mudcat's Amazon link, the search engine picked up my name & lead me to..." I don't understand how this worked. Could you explain in a little more detail? Which search engine are you talking about? Mudcat's? Amazon's? Google's? Did you initiate the search? When, where, and how? What were you searching for? If there's any searching technique I'm not familiar with, I want to know about it! |

Subject: RE: BS: Book from my past found From: Nigel Paterson Date: 11 Apr 10 - 04:58 AM Thanks for your good wishes, I love these 'out of the blue' moments! As luck seems to be going my way, maybe this is favourable time to mention that there is one more book of mine that I'm still searching for. It's title is "Classical Guitar Romance", published by Chappell & Co in 1978. It would be lovely to fill this gap in my career archive. Nigel P. |

Subject: RE: BS: Book from my past found From: Ron Davies Date: 11 Apr 10 - 09:25 AM Congratulations, Nigel. It's good to know the Net can do positive things (yes, I know this is not the only one). But we do get enough spreading of absurd conspiracy theories, attempted scams, slander, etc. |

Subject: RE: BS: Book from my past found From: Lox Date: 11 Apr 10 - 10:56 AM So you wrote the book and now you've bought a copy off Amazon? I hope you get the royalties .... ;-) |

Subject: RE: BS: Book from my past found From: Nigel Paterson Date: 11 Apr 10 - 12:39 PM I wish! Never earned any royalties from the first couple of books, of which this was one...got paid a fee...early days, a bit green behind the ears...very flattered that a publisher found my work good enough to print! Learned fast though & with the support of the Musician's Union, 'proper' contracts were negotiated for my subsequent efforts...happy days! Nigel P. |

Subject: RE: BS: Book from my past found From: Rowan Date: 12 Apr 10 - 01:45 AM Congratulations, Nigel. On reading it, did you 'learn' anything from it that you'd 'forgotten' since it was published. I ask because a friend of mine, a very-well-known singer in Oz before he died, was once asked to perform a song that he'd once recorded to much acclaim and, to his embarrassment, he admitted he'd forgotten the words. And, while I've often seen the Amazon ads that show whether a book related to the thread topic is "found" or not, the current ad above the postings on this thread (and I'm in Oz) reads Australia's Book Shop Better than Amazon. Guaranteed. Free 24 Hour Shipping! Fishpond.com.au while the usual Amazon ad is absent. Cheers, Rowan |

Subject: RE: BS: Book from my past found From: Nigel Paterson Date: 12 Apr 10 - 08:53 AM Thanks to open mike for the search on my behalf...rude of me to reply so tardily. Thanks to Rowan for the info too & as regards learning, Rowan, I never forgot the words to a song I was actually singing, but I have been known to forget to sing a song (as in 'miss out') from my set list! No problem if you're performing solo...a different matter entirely if you're part of a group! Nigel P. |

Subject: RE: BS: Book from my past found From: Nigel Paterson Date: 14 Apr 10 - 05:59 AM My book, "Fun Music for Guitar 2" came in the post this morning. It's in very good condition, having been 'library bound' by the Wiltshire Library Service. Serendipity completed! The search goes on for "Classical Guitar Romance". Nigel P. |
|
Subject: RE: BS: Book from my past found From: Nigel Paterson Date: 19 Apr 10 - 04:53 AM On the basis that my "Fun Music" book had once resided in a library in Wiltshire, I wondered whether there were any more of my 'lost' publications still lurking in a dusty corner. I phoned the library & bingo!...found the lot..."Classical Guitar Romance" & one other I had completely forgotten about! As the last time either of the books had been borrowed was back in 2002, the library was quite happy to let me have them (I think the offer of a generous donation to the library service probably helped too!) None of this would have happened without Mudcat. It just goes to show what a brilliant resource Mudcat is...thanks Max! Nigel P. |
