Congratulations to Andy Murray on winning the Madrid Open so skilfully and comprehensively. But can anyone tell what that odd trophy he received, looking a bit like a misshapen pipe-stand without a base, is actually supposed to represent?

Or Tory.

Or Lib Dem.

As to tennis, I wasn't aware it was played outside of Wimbledon fortnight, during which I become a learned sage who knows everything about the game.

Must observe that it seems like a lot of Pseuds-Corner-worthy nonsense to me: over-ambitious symbolism resulting in an artefact of surpassing ugliness whose significance requires far too much background knowledge to be comprehensible. What's the use of something that needs such a complex programme-note before it even begins to make sense? Still, I hope the Murrays will enjoy gazing upon its replica-to-keep in the trophy cabinet.

What anyone else think?
