Subject: BS: Don't get much sicker than this From: Greg F. Date: 12 May 16 - 08:04 AM SANFORD, Fla. — The pistol that former neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman used in the fatal shooting of Trayvon Martin is going up for auction online. The auction listing on GunBroker.com lists the gun as a 9 mm Kel-Tec PF-9 pistol. The auction begins at 11 a.m. EDT Thursday and ends at the same time Friday. The bidding starts at $5,000. The auction listing also says a portion of the proceeds will go toward fighting what Zimmerman calls violence by the Black Lives Matter movement against law enforcement officers, combatting anti-gun rhetoric of Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and ending the career of Angela Corey, the attorney who led the prosecution against Zimmerman. http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/2016/05/12/us/ap-us-george-zimmerman-pistol.html |

Subject: RE: BS: Don't get much sicker than this From: Rapparee Date: 12 May 16 - 08:26 AM Yeah, it can get sicker. This is bad enough. Unfortunately someone will buy it. I would if I could -- and then I'd have it melted down and added to the sculpture behind the Library here. The sculpture was created from melted firearms and decries gun violence. Oh, by the way -- Zimmerman would be making a helluva profit as the manufacturer's suggested retail price is USD 386; you can get one for as little as USD 150. You can guess the quality from the price. One of these days Zimmerman is going to be convicted of something and stay in jail. I shan't comment further on this...person. |

Subject: RE: BS: Don't get much sicker than this From: leeneia Date: 13 May 16 - 10:59 AM Yes, that's sick. But by chatting about it on Mudcat, you are helping to publicize it. Why? The best way to handle this is to say 'pfff' and go about living a decent, honest life. |

Subject: RE: BS: Don't get much sicker than this From: punkfolkrocker Date: 13 May 16 - 12:50 PM well... I was thinking... if this was a cheap mystery TV movie.. or an episode of "Elementary" the winner of the auction would be the person who most wanted to use it against Zimmerman... |

Subject: RE: BS: Don't get much sicker than this From: gillymor Date: 13 May 16 - 07:05 PM No doubt a portion of the proceeds will also go to restocking that scumbag's arsenal. Every penny of his filthy lucre should go to Trayvon's family. |

When the wind blows in a certain direction there's a strange smell in the air, like burning. Nothing for proper, law-abiding townsfolk to worry about. We shall keep going about our business. |

Subject: RE: BS: Don't get much sicker than this From: Jim Carroll Date: 14 May 16 - 12:31 PM I see that the U.S. is now short of lethal drugs to carry out executions due to a boycott by pharmaceutical companies who object to their products being used to take life rather than save it. Perhaps states noted for their executions, like Texas and Florida, can start shooting their prisoners, then sell the weapons on the net, thereby killing two birds with one stone (pun intended) - continuing with their, 'kill-'em-all' policy while improving the economy of the State at the same time. Just a thought! Jim Carroll |

Subject: RE: BS: Don't get much sicker than this From: Greg F. Date: 14 May 16 - 12:50 PM companies who object to their products being used to take life rather than save it. I don't think that's the companies' objection at all. They simply don't think they're being paid enough for their product. |

Subject: RE: BS: Don't get much sicker than this From: SPB-Cooperator Date: 14 May 16 - 04:21 PM I've heard that it has been pulled from the auction, but I have suggested elsewhere crowdfunding to buy it, and public ally have it crushed. |

Subject: RE: BS: Don't get much sicker than this From: Greg F. Date: 14 May 16 - 06:07 PM For heaven's sake don't crush it. Shove it up Zimmerman's ass instead. Loaded. |

Subject: RE: BS: Don't get much sicker than this From: SPB-Cooperator Date: 19 May 16 - 03:54 AM Just read - sold for $138,000. There are some sick f*****s in US that are prepared to pay even a single cent of a trophy so that they can show of their toy that was used to murder a black kid - bet they don't use the word black either. Hope Zimmerman spends the rest of his life looking over his shoulder and every decent person hounds that s**t wherever he goes. Well for me that sums up everyone who is pro gun ownership, and if you want to keep your toys, please don't bother visiting my country. |

Subject: RE: BS: Don't get much sicker than this From: saulgoldie Date: 19 May 16 - 03:37 PM OP aside--thread drift alert--I heard a discussion on, of course, NPR about a book called: The Gunning of America: Business and the Making of American Gun Culture. Fascinating, really, in that the whole discussion of guns and gun policy was not driven by deeply held political or philosophical views, but was totally driven by cold hard business decisions. Puts the lie to our entire discussions of gun culture, the 2nd amendment, and all that. I doubt if this new information will change anything, though. We like our truisms pretty much, whether or not they are true. Saul |

Subject: RE: BS: Don't get much sicker than this From: saulgoldie Date: 19 May 16 - 03:50 PM I should have noted that it was on the Diane Rehm Show. Diane is not the first, nor will be the last of several *greats* leaving NPR in recent and coming years. OK, younguns, step up to the plate and take the reigns! Saul |

Subject: RE: BS: Don't get much sicker than this From: saulgoldie Date: 19 May 16 - 03:53 PM AND, I should have noted the author. (I honestly don't know where my head is! Probly those scant 2 hours instead of 8 of sleep might have something to do with it.) Anyway...It's by Pamela Haag Saul |

Subject: RE: BS: Don't get much sicker than this From: gillymor Date: 19 May 16 - 06:55 PM That was an excellent show, thanks for the reminder, Saul. You can listen to it here. Diane is one of a kind, she'll be hard to replace but Susan Page who frequently fills in is good with the political end of things and does a good job moderating discussions. |
