Subject: BS: happy Labor Day weekend From: keberoxu Date: 01 Sep 23 - 06:53 PM Instead of just isolating Labor Day, here's to the entire long holiday weekend. We're supposed to improve from fall weather to Indian Summer weather up here in New England. |
Subject: RE: BS: happy Labor Day weekend From: Steve Shaw Date: 01 Sep 23 - 08:36 PM Sorry about this, especially as I know little or nothing about Labor Day, but I can't hear the expression without thinking of that famous episode of Married With Children in which Al Bundy takes his wife Peggy and his execrable offspring Bud and Kelly for a drive on Labor Day, only to be caught in a 50-mile traffic snarl-up on the Chicago freeway. The whole episode has them sitting there motionless as they embark on an emotional rollercoaster, even involving fellow stranded motorists. Classic! |
Subject: RE: BS: happy Labor Day weekend From: Stilly River Sage Date: 01 Sep 23 - 09:01 PM That can be what holiday driving looks like. Especially on the last night of the long weekend as everyone heads home again. We're still in the triple-digit temperatures for the next 10 days (as far as the forecast goes from today). Not a lovely time to recreate outside. And on these weekends the last thing I would do is go to a beach or on a boat; too many years of my park ranger ex working the Corps of Engineers lake where he worked as they looked for a drowning victim. Alcohol and boats don't mix, and too many people jump overboard thinking they can swim when they can't. I spent many years working as a seasonal ranger when the period between Memorial Day and Labor Day was always busy and usually more about solving problems than it was about enjoying the nature or the history of whatever park you were working at. The off-season is the time to visit those places. Great time to buy a mattress, though. And there are probably white sales (linens). |

Subject: RE: BS: happy Labor Day weekend From: keberoxu Date: 02 Sep 23 - 10:37 AM I'm sad that Jimmy Buffett passed as young as he was, but he got a lot out of his life. It's going to be a reflective and melancholy holiday for some of us. |
Subject: RE: BS: happy Labor Day weekend From: Stilly River Sage Date: 02 Sep 23 - 11:52 AM Steve, I may have watched one or two episodes of Married With Children, I'm familiar with the cast and their roles, but that sounds like a really great episode. Road trips in general are interesting. Getting space in the motel or campground before Labor Day can mean reservations ahead or driving around for a while to find one that isn't full. After Labor Day the roads are less crowded in those tourist areas and there is usually room at the inn. |

As a guy who’s been feeling the weight of his age lately, it’s a boost to hear that someone considers 76 ‘young’! Thanks buddy, and have a great weekend! |
Subject: RE: BS: happy Labor Day weekend From: Charley Noble Date: 03 Sep 23 - 11:52 AM Words: Ray Glaser Music: Bill Wolff, ©1947 Put It On The Ground Oh! If you want a raise in pay, I'll tell you what to do Go and ask the boss for it and he will give it to you; He will give it to you, my boys, he will give it to you A raise in pay, without delay, oh, he will give it to you Chorus: Ohhh, put it on the ground, spread it all around Dig it with a hoe: it will make your flowers grow! For the men who own the industries I'm shedding bitter tears They haven't made a single dime in over thirty years In over thirty years, my boys, in over thirty years Not one thin dime in all that time, in over thirty years The cost of living ain't so high, I told my wife Miranda This talk of living being hard is Rooshian propaganda It's Rooshian propaganda, boys, just Rooshian propaganda From Molotov to Simonov, just Rooshian propaganda It's fun to work on holidays, or when the day is done; Why should they pay us overtime for having so much fun? For having so much fun my boys, for having so much fun. Pay overtime would be a crime for having so much fun. Ohhh... The men who own the industries, they own no bonds and stocks They own no yachts and limousines, or gems the size of rocks; They own no cryptocurrency, or silken B.V.D.'s, Because they pay the working man such fancy salaries. Ohhh.... One small update. Can anyone spot it? Cheerily, Charlie Ipcar |
